garden club Our regular general meeting is on the second Wednesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 10 am. Membership is $15 per year. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to join. Do you want to serve on a committee? There are many areas of interest in the Garden Club and new volunteers are always welcome. To keep a wonderful club like ours new people are always welcome on the board or a committee. New people bring new ideas. To find out what opportunities are available as a member, just ask us. It doesn't cost anything and you aren't obligated by inquiring. We appreciate all who support the Garden Club and would love to have more volunteers to serve on the board and the different committees. JULY 10 PROGRAM AT GENERAL MEETING: Shelley Kibby will be our July speaker. Her topic will be, "Native Usage of Plants." Shelley is a Park Interpreter for the Riverside County Parks Department and has a great deal of knowledge of the wildflowers and native plants in the area. SEES CANDY: We still have gift certificates for you to give as gifts. On hand are Lollipops and Peanut Brittle. Info., Mary or Don Ruygrok, 845-1296. GARDEN CLUB TRIPS: KATELLA DELI & THE CERRITOS MALL, Aug. 13: $25 pp. The Cerritos Mall is anchored by Nordstroms, Sears, Macy's. This is a very large mall with many clothing and specialty stores. Lunch is on your own at the mall or you can eat at the famous Katella Deli. HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, Sept. 30: $35 pp. Includes entrance fee and transportation and tip for driver. $38 additional, Tea Luncheon which is optional. Lunch is available on site on own. Wear those comfortable shoes of course. Lots of walking. THE WELK THEATER, Nov. 21: Dinner & Show. Entertainment, door prizes and 50/50. A fall menu will be offered. Enjoy turkey, dressing, gravy, mixed vegetables and carrot cake. Info., Joan, 845-6715. PENNY PINES PROGRAM: Over the years the Garden Club members have generously donated funds to the San Bernardino reforesting program. With our latest donation of 14 acres, our total of acres donated is 366 acres. Our August speaker will be Lenore Will of the Department of Agriculture speaking about this program. ADOPT A VASE: At the July meeting there will be an assortment of vases offered for 50 cents each. The money collected from this will be donated to the Penny Pines project. PLANT A ROW: The food planted and raised at Dysart Park by the Plant A Row program is donated to our local Pass area kitchens, such as Carol's Kitchen and Table of Plenty. All of the planting beds available have been adopted and have been planted. Look for their famous "onions" in July. SUMMER FRUIT PICKING: Call the "Gleaning Team" from the Garden Club. Let them come pick the remaining fruit to share with our local kitchens that feed the hungry. Please don't just let it fall to the ground uneaten.
