friends of bocce The Summer Tournament is well under way. Fifty-three teams have decided to challenge each other and the weather to enjoy the competition and camaraderie to be found on the bocce courts. Speaking of the courts, the 'new' sideboards have been removed and replaced with rubber bumpers, which seem to work very well for those teams that like to bank. There are still some problems to be worked out, but, unfortunately, these things seem to take way to long to be resolved! Trust that we're working on it!! Just a heads-up… the Summer Tournament ends the week of the 21st of August, with the play-offs beginning the week of the 26th of August. The deadline for entering your team for the Fall Tournament is Aug. 30, at 5 pm, with play beginning the week of Sept. 9. Have you checked the bulletin boards lately? You'll find all kinds of information on both the front, facing the courts, and the BACK of the free-standing board. Many times it is the wish of a team to call a team member to make sure he/she is coming, but the telephone number is not known! Guess what — all the numbers are on the back side of the bulletin board! Good idea, huh? Added to that, the schedule for the year can be found on the back side of the bocce shed. Friends of Bocce does its best to keep you informed. We send out e-mails to inform and to prompt you. If you have an e-mail address, but are not receiving our fascinating communications, please share your address with Dutch at 845-0392. Happy summer — see you at the courts! pickleball & paddle tennis Do you want to make new friends and meet fun people? Improve balance, agility and cardio? Then join us in the fastest growing sport among seniors in the nation… Pickleball! Or, perhaps you're more interested in the traditional Paddle Tennis game. Either way, we would love to have you come and join us! No equipment? No problem… just give us a call! Instruction and equipment can be provided! Courts are at the Main Clubhouse, next to the Pro Shop. Pickleball hours are Monday through Saturday at 8:30 am and Monday at 5 pm. Our recent clinic was fun and brought many new faces and promising talent to the sport. We encourage those who might have missed this opportunity to learn and play to call Royce, 769-1103, or George, 7970504 for information. New players can get rackets at cost by calling Jeanne McGuire, 845-8817. There's limited inventory, so contact her asap! Paddle Tennis hours are Tues., Thurs., Fri. and Sun. at 8 am, and Tues. and Thurs. at 6 pm (DST hours allow for changes). As a reminder, no black soled shoes on the courts. Check out the bulletin board, just outside the courts, for player rosters, events, etc. Do you enjoy playing 8 Ball? If so, join us. All Sun Lakers, whether on a team or not, are welcome to join our practice sessions Mondays thru Saturdays. On Ladies Day (Wednesday), table priorities go to any ladies who want to play. There is no cost to practice with our friendly group. However, if you join a team, it costs $10 per three-month season. Our teams compete every Thursday at 12 noon in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room, with some "away" games at a couple of non-Sun Lakes facilities. For a fun afternoon of fiercebut-friendly competition, come watch us play.
