FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK A primary reason I chose Sun Lakes as my home was the feeling of community. I had experienced two previous heart problems, and wanted to live in a place where I knew Sandy would be safe and taken care of, no matter what happened to me. Since coming here over 10 years ago, I have seen over and over that my initial perception was correct. Whether someone is ill, needs major surgery, or a friend has passed, our community rallies to be of assistance in any way they can. This sense of caring for each other was never more evident than what happened on the golf course last month. During a Men's Club tournament a player began having respiratory problems. He thought he was having bronchial trouble. His playing partners recognized his situation and offered help in a number of ways. They gave him an inhaler to try, aspirin, and even a nitro pill. Nothing relieved his discomfort. In fact, his condition worsened. They stopped playing and took him to urgent care in their golf carts. As it turned out, he was having major heart problems. If his playing partners had not taken the proactive approach they did, the player would not be with us today. The doctors put three stints in him, and he was home a couple of days later. This is not a rare occurrence at Sun Lakes. Although not every case involves saving a life, one caring resident going out of their way to help another is quite common. It reminds me of a lyric from Louis Armstrong's song "What a Wonderful World:" "I see friends shaking hands, sayin' "How do you do?' They're really sayin', 'I love you.'" Caring for each other is what makes us a community. It is why Sun Lakes is special. I hope we never lose that, and continue to be like those golf playing partners who went the extra step to take care of their fellow Sun Laker. By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President Congratulations fellows. The community applauds your positive and caring action. If you have a story that exemplifies the Spirit of Sun Lakes, please e-mail it to SunLakesNews@yahoo.com or bring it to the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk. We will be selecting some to feature in upcoming issues of the Lifestyles Magazine. Sun Lakes… What a wonderful world. community news | sun lakes lifestyles | july 2013 | 3
