Happy first anniversary, Vern and Diana (below). So glad you found each other at the Social Singles! Our next dinner meeting is Sept. 17 at 5:45 pm in the South Clubhouse. Doors open at 5:15 pm. "The falling leaves, drift by my window … the autumn leaves of red and gold." Yes, the beautiful fall season is here! An unbelievably generous Sun Lakes resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has asked to pay for everyone's dinner this month. On behalf of the Social Singles, our Board would like to thank this wonderful person for their generosity. It is truly appreciated. Thomas Catering will be serving a very special surprise dinner. The talented group, Radio Fliers, will be performing our favorite songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. What a fabulous evening to enjoy with your friends, laughing and singing. Yearly membership is $15. If you join now, dues are only $7.50 for the rest of the year. Call Maggie Kline at (951) 797-0694 for reservations and membership. Those who want to sit together, please tell Maggie when you make the reservation. Reservations and cancellations must be in the FRIDAY BEFORE the dinner. EVENTS Thurs., Sept. 23: Dinner in the Restaurant. 5:30 pm. For reservations call Bonnie Jensen, (951) 849-6153. Fri., Sept. 24: Movie, Queen Bee, Ballroom, 1:30 pm. This is a new movie starring Ellen Burstyn, Ann Margaret, Loretta Devine and James Caan. We can relate to this "senior community." The laughs are non stop. No reservation necessary. Individually wrapped popcorn served. Sat., Oct. 2: Lunch in the Restaurant. Noon. For reservations call Barb at (951) 769-0912. If you know of anyone who is sick or needs cheering up, please contact Barbara Willens at (951) 769-0912 and she will send them a card. Spreading Sunshine Young at Heart In August, the Young at Heart club held two events. Thirteen teams of four competed in a Bocce Tournament as part of the Sun Lakes Summer Games competition. In the Experienced Division the Gold Medal went to the team of Gary Balcom, Jeannie McGuire and Barry and Claudia Schwartz; while Silver went to Dave and Peggy Huetten, Larry Ellis and Claudia Martin; and Rick and Judy Taylor, Dave and Judy Crail won the Bronze Medal. In the Novice category, the Gold Medal was won by Bob and Michele Walter and Steve and Sally Jo Schwartz; the Silver went to Pam D'Arca, Stan Stambaugh, and Chris and Joanne Vetter; and Jeff and Theresa Van Haren, and Dennis and Shannon McKinney won Bronze. On Aug. 28, members gathered on the driving range to enjoy an evening of "Music Under the Stars" while socializing and munching on appetizers. We are planning several more activities to bring our members together for the kind of fun and camaraderie for which our events are famous. In September, we will reprise the crazy and fun golf cart rally that was such a hit in 2019. Participants will solve puzzles to navigate through the route, snacking and drinking at a pit stop on their way to the finish where they will be joined by other club members to continue the fun. Activities planned for future months include another bocce tournament with dinner and a unique New Year's Eve progressive dinner party, among others. Details will be emailed to all members as plans for each event are finalized. We welcome new members. Annual dues are still just $10 per person. We are also open to creative new ideas for fun activities. For questions, suggestions, or to join Young at Heart, call Michele Walter at (951) 202-8009. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2021 | 25 Social Singles
