60 60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2021 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2021 | The Sun Lakes Tennis Club continues to thrive in part due to the leadership of the Executive Committee including Jim Ball, Steve Schwartz, David Nethercott, Phil Hazelton, and Bob Walter. Now that the Summer Games are complete, the Executive Committee will be turning its creative energies to the events of the fall season and beyond, the recruitment of new members. Yes, we need an influx of new members if we are to continue to thrive as an active club. One must be a Sun Lakes resident and cover the $10 per person fee. The month of September is an ideal time for new members to join and become active in the club. The following schedule is anticipated for the month of September and the balance of 2021: Sept. 11: Quarterly Meeting Sept. 17 - 19: Mixed Doubles Tournament Sept. 24: Friday Night Lights Oct. 1 - 3: Men's Doubles Tournament Oct. 15: Friday Night Lights Oct. 22 - 24: Women's Doubles Tournament Nov. 20: Turkey Shoot Dec. 11: Quarterly Meeting & Holiday Party All tennis players are encouraged to notice the list of rules that are posted at the South Courts. Courtesy is always a necessary part of tennis, with a focus on enjoyment for all. Women have preference on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Men have preference on Tuesday and Thursday. Phil Hazelton titles his tennis tip for September as 'hit and recover.' According to Phil, "Many of us fall into the 'hit and watch' category, watching our shot sometimes in amazement, or wonder!" Phil adds, "Try hitting your shot and take notice where you are on the court and try to get back to the center of the court or together with your partner (in doubles). You have the time from after you hit until ball bounces on other side to make up recovering your court position. This helps you get ready for the next shot." And always, "Keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game." Tennis Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play to around 2 pm. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three-month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly competition, come watch us play.
