One of the driving forces behind his work is that he believes our children are our future; and the evidence is the following elite group, along with a host of others, who attained the rank of Eagle Scout: Neil Armstrong, Astronaut; Gerald Ford, POTUS; Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense; Ross Perot, Businessman; Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense; Steven Spielberg, Producer; and Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State. Chris was first introduced to China's youth when they attended his Lake Arrowhead BSA camps. As a result, in 2016 — his interest in enriching the lives of China's youth, augmented by the entreaties of motivated parents of his Chinese camp-goers — Chris made several trips to China and ultimately implemented his values-based outdoor education programs/camps there. Between 2016 and 2019, he made nine trips to China establishing, managing, and perfecting camp programs. In 2018, with their outdoor programs being a huge success, the Chinese named a school after Chris. It is called "The Big Kahuna School of the Imagination." Yes, you read it right! Chris, as you know, is from Hawaii, and he IS a big guy. Chris describes this honor as one of the most satisfying things that has ever happened to him. With this year's China trip tabled due to the pandemic, Chris is focusing on sharing his love, education, and expertise with children here in the good ol' USA. He is promoting one of his favorite things — teaching values and life skills to children while making learning fun. He continues to volunteer with the Scout Organization; and, as Scout Master, he is currently organizing a camping experience in both Catalina and Lake Arrowhead for hundreds of children, with his wife by his side.
