While playing tennis on Court #2 a few weeks ago, we noticed the familiar sight of the "Irve Sturner" plaque missing from the bench. The plaque was dedicated to Irve in 2019 to honor him for all his invaluable contributions to our Tennis Club and it has become a permanent fixture at The Courts. (No worries, it apparently got loose but it reappeared again a few days later.) That prompted me to think of Irve and all the uniquely nice qualities he brought to this earth. For those who are new to Four Seasons, Irve was hugely instrumental for the incredibly beautiful facilities at The Courts that we get to enjoy every day. Up until about three years ago, we only had two courts at The Lodge. Under Irve's relentless efforts and perseverance working tirelessly with the builder, the four nice courts became a reality. I had the great fortune of meeting Irve in Orange County back in the 1980s playing in USTA leagues and inter-club tournaments. He was always very kind and friendly. It was virtually impossible to forget Irve once you met him. I was blessed again some 30 years later to re-acquaint with him when I moved to Four Seasons in 2016. Talk about a small world! Over the two plus years before Irve left us, I had countless opportunities, both on and off the court, to witness how he interacted with people. Not only did he really enjoy playing tennis, he simply loved visiting with everyone around him. Irve had a special way of putting others at ease. He would often invite us to go to the Bistro and have pizza after the games just to chat and chill. His lovely wife Alice would often join us. Alice, who still lives in Four Seasons, was quite an accomplished tennis player in her own right. She advanced all the way to the USTA League National Championship Final. WOW! Irve was also one active and energetic "social bunny." He would always ride his bike to The Courts with his tennis bag on his back. He was particularly positive, encouraging, and welcoming to new players. He always told them to "just have fun and enjoy the game." Bottom line - Irve loved people. No wonder he was loved by so many. We miss you, Irve! See you all at The Courts.
