66 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2021 Fishing Club Here is another fishing story from the past. The year was 1985 and a fishing buddy and I were fishing at the Salton Sea. We were in a small boat and we were catching Corvina. The water was calm and we were catching fish weighing eight to 12 pounds. All of a sudden, the boat started shaking and we knew we were in the middle of an earthquake. The shaking stopped and in the horizon we saw a huge wave coming toward us. As the wave got closer we saw a huge fish riding the wave. We estimated the fish to be over seven feet long and weighing over 100 pounds. When the wave hit our boat we were able to ride it as it passed. We fished the rest of the day trying to catch that huge fish. We were not able to catch him nor did we have a camera to take pictures. Joe and I said we would not talk about our adventure because no one would believe us. I did some research about the kinds of fish that were planted in the Salton Sea. Turns out a sea bass called Tutwava was planted in the Salton Sea. These fish get to be over 100 pounds and six feet long. None were ever caught at the Salton Sea, but I can tell you I sure saw one after an earthquake that caused a huge wave. Tight lines to all my fishing buddies and remember always take your cellphone with you to take pictures of weird things while you are fishing. ~ Richard Carrasco, ricarrasco52@gmail.com Hallelujah! Some progress has finally been made on the construction of the four new shuffleboard courts. As the photo shows (bottom right), the new courts have been framed out and the tension cables/rebar have been placed. Now we are waiting for the concrete to be poured, which we are hoping will be very soon. In the meantime, we continue to play regularly on Monday and Saturdays at 8 am on the existing courts at The Lodge. We have been getting more new players and continue to welcome anyone who is interested in joining a great group of people and playing a fun and competitive game. We get better attendance on Saturdays and have had as many as 23 people show up to play. Mondays are not quite as popular. We choose up different teams each time we play, so that it is always interesting and everyone gets to socialize a little with their different teammates. If you have any questions, please let me know. ~ Marty Rotman, mrtmj@aol.com, (310) 948-1693 Shuffleboard Jesse Acves with a nice limb fish he caught at Diamond Valley Lake
