FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2021 31 Hello friends. We hope that everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer. The following are a few things the Safety Committee has been evaluating: DRIVING SAFETY At our September meeting, several residents expressed concern regarding speeding and unsafe driving within our community. While we are exploring many options to help with this situation, we would like you to keep in mind two important numbers: 25…25 miles per hour is the maximum speed limit on roadways within our residential districts. 30…30 miles per hour is the maximum speed limit on Four Seasons Circle. In addition, remember… • Stop at all designated stop signs… no California rolling stops. PLEASE! • Yield to vehicles that have entered the roundabouts. • Yield to pedestrians. COVID-19 The increase in COVID-19 cases continues to rise, primarily due to variants of the virus and unvaccinated individuals. Please follow the CDC guidelines for vaccinations, booster shots, and mask usage. This is particularly important for individuals with compromised immune systems. PREPARE FOR YOUR DAY, THE HEALTHY WAY… EAT RIGHT A nutritious diet can increase both physical and mental performance, energy levels, and help play an important role in weight loss. A well-nourished body can also help overcome stress. Chances are you are one of the millions of Americans who have tried at one time or another to lose weight. Unfortunately, the diet gimmicks and quick weight loss plans often seem to accomplish nothing more than disappointment. Note: If you would like assistance with achieving your weight loss goals, consider joining TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), a supportive group of individuals in Four Seasons that meets each Tuesday at 8:30 am in The Lodge Ballroom. STAY ACTIVE Staying active does not necessarily mean working out at the gym or buying an expensive exercise machine. Start out each day stretching before you start your daily activities. While exercise is necessary to maintain an ideal body weight, it does not need to be a workout in the gym. Go for a walk on our sidewalks or on one of our beautiful trails, enjoy one of our pools, or consider riding a bike. Just have fun and be active. Exercise helps to burn calories, suppress the appetite, increase metabolism and energy levels, and reduce stress. Note: Your doctor can help you with any personal concerns and get you started on a simple exercise program. RECHARGE Getting plenty of sleep and taking an afternoon "power nap" to reenergize are a few ways to stay well rested. On average, people need around eight hours of sleep a night, although this can vary for each person and his or her age. Note: Caffeine and alcohol can interfere with your sleep cycle. As a reminder, the Safety Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 am in The Lodge's RCN Conference Room. We encourage you to join the meeting should you have any concerns or if you would simply like an update on our ongoing safety projects. Please drop on by if you are interested in joining the Safety Committee. We are always looking for energetic new members. All the best. ~ Frank Hilberg, hilberg frank@gmail.com Safety Committee Landscape Committee As I drive or walk through our community, I can't help but think how beautiful it is and how thankful I am to live here. The Landscape Committee works numerous hours to ensure the community stays pristine. In order to accomplish this, they meet every Friday morning bright and early and walk different areas of the community, along with our Park West representative, for a minimum of two hours. They walk both common and Front Yard Cost Center areas and scrutinize each and every plant they see along the way. They determine if the plant is doing well or if it may need some help to stay healthy. If the plant is not going to make it, the decision is made to replace it. The Landscape Committee is currently looking to replace plants with more drought-tolerant and California-native plants. When the community was first built, plants that need more water were planted next to plants that need less water which has created a struggle. One day, fingers crossed, we will have the correct plants throughout the community! As the Board Liaison to the Landscape Committee, I am in awe of the vast knowledge each and every member of this committee brings to the table as well as their dedication to the community. They continue to amaze me on each walk. In addition to the weekly walks, the committee meets the third Tuesday of the month, on average for three hours, to discuss each of the plants to be replaced and continually working to stay within budget keeping in mind the beauty they are attempting to preserve. One new and exciting project on the drawing board is a pollinator garden. This will be beautiful when the Monarch butterflies migrate. They are carefully studying the correct plants needed to ensure pollination can take place and attract butterflies. Keep your eyes open for new and exciting things to come… ~ Kathy Craven, kcravenbod@yahoo.com
