FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2021 45 Country Line Dancing Have you ever run into someone you know, but just can't remember their name? It happens to all of us occasionally of course. But as our community ages, and we age with it, it seems to be happening to more people more frequently. It is part of aging, but there are things you can do to help your brain. Many game-type books or apps on your computer will help, from crossword puzzles, Sudoku, solitaire, puzzles, word search and so much more. But learning to dance also helps. Dancing teaches you steps, most often in sets of eight. Most easy dances have 32 steps or four sets of eight. When learning, my job is to demonstrate and instruct you on how to do each step in each set, your job is to learn them. You learn, not only in class with my help and the help of "dance angels" (more experienced dancers), but by dancing at home and working on each set of eight until you know it by heart and then moving on to the second set and so forth. When you are done, you will have learned all 32 steps to that dance. Concentrating on each step and how it relates to the next step or set helps the brain to remember all sorts of other things. Dancing is also good for balance as it is much like walking, you move one foot at a time and then the opposite foot, but it is all done to music and the steps are done in several different ways. We adapt dances that have a lot of turning, since as "seniors" we sometimes lose our balance. If you have hip or knee issues, we can also adapt the steps to make them easier for you. The benefits you get from dancing and being with other people are so good to your well-being in general. You will be amazed at how differently you feel about yourself and how much enjoyment and satisfaction you get just from trying. And you will most likely improve your memory in the process. Stop by and watch or give it a try. Hope to see you on the dance floor soon. ~ Martha Franck, marthafranck@icloud.com, (714) 345-8588 Step It Up Line Dancing Well it's already October and the holidays are coming up soon. We've had some great dancing since we've started back up in April and some new fun dances we've learned that we love. We had our September Barn Burner and, just like in the past, it was great fun! Stop on by if you feel the urge to learn to line dance or want to learn any new dance steps and see if you want to join us. See page 21 of this issue for class times. It's great exercise, a lot of fun meeting new friends, and hopefully you'll learn a few dances while you're at it. Please contact me with any questions you may have. ~ Janine Rohrbacker (949) 326-3133 Let's Dance! We are learning Cha-Cha in the month of October. Cha-Cha is a fun, lively dance with so many ways to express yourself. The music is always popular too – it started in the 60s and brings back memories of some fun times for many of us. There are many familiar steps and patterns from Waltz, Foxtrot and Rumba. We do our Cha-Cha at a bit slower pace so everyone can do it! Our Executive Committee is excited to announce we will be hosting our Christmas Dinner Dance on Friday, Dec. 10 in the Ballroom. Mark your calendars. We will be dancing to the fabulous sounds of American Made Band. This event is open to all residents, and offers a full catered buffet dinner and an evening of wonderful music, dancing, and friendship. Tickets are $35 pp and are available beginning Oct. 25, so watch for the poster in the lobby with the details. Tickets will sell fast and you don't want to miss this! We meet in the Ballroom on Mondays with Beginners at 6 pm, review at 6:45 pm and Advanced at 7:15 pm. The cost is $10 per person with our amazing professional instructors. For more info, contact Puring or Gary Stifter at (951) 922-8333 or purings@verizon. net. ~ Sue Condurachi Heart & Soul Line Dance Heart and Soul Line Dance meets Wednesdays, 4 to 6 pm, in The Lodge Ballroom. It is a mixed level class, easier dances used at the beginning slowly changing the complexity of the dances that move us through dance levels. We use a variety of music that can satisfy everyone's taste, all the steps are broken down, and dances are repeated as we continue to incorporate new dances. Come on out and give us a try. If you have any questions, contact Priscilla Robles at (909) 239-6464. See you all on the dance floor! ~ Priscilla Robles
