64 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2021 Our Aug. 12 run recap: We had a group of 15 4x4 rigs leave from The Lodge at 8:45 am. Our group was led by Trail Boss Lynette Simonson. She led our rigs up the Old Idyllwild Road and on to the Vista Grande USFS Fire Station. There we were welcomed with open arms by the Fire Crew and our group was treated to a tour of one of the USFS' newest fire trucks and its gear. The Vista Grande Station also has a memorial on site for the local firefighters who have given their all. We thank our first responders for their service and sacrifice. Lynette then took us to a cool 7700' at a cool 75 degrees for our lunch stop at The Boulder Basin Picnic and Campground. The Black Mountain Fire Lookout Station is a short but steep hike from our lunch spot. About half our group hiked to the lookout where we were met by a nice family manning the station. The other half got some siesta time under the shade of the native pines. Lynette then led us back down Hwy. 243 to Azealia Canyon, a somewhat unknown USFS road down to Twin Pines Ranch. From there our group headed home, returning to Four Seasons as planned, about 3 pm. Thank you to all who joined us, thank you to Lynette for leading the way and thank you Bob for being our group's Tail End Charlie. If this looks like fun and you have an off-highway capable 4x4 or just want to hitch a ride, reach out to us. We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the RCN Conference Room at 6:30 pm and plan our monthly Day Run for the second Thursday of each month. Oh yeah, those yellow leaves are tumbling down and my walks on the trails are getting cooler. Can you tell I just love this time of year? Of course, it also makes our horseshoe playing more enjoyable. It's time to have another tournament and one thing about it this year, we don't have to worry about rain causing problems. We've been privileged this year to have two new members join our ranks. It's been great getting to know them and adding their talents to the competition of each session and tournaments as well. So, if you are a new resident and you haven't played in a long time, no problem — we have relaxed rules about throwing positions and just want you to have fun! We meet each week at The Summit where we have one of the most beautiful horseshoe venues with a fabulous view. Our starting time is 8 am and our contacts are Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@sbcglobal.net or Gary Christie at (951) 845-0520, goldtoy@earthlink.net. ~ Ron Erickson Horseshoe Club
