We made it through another HOT Hemet summer. The cooler days of October are finally here. The plants certainly reflect
it! We had our air conditioners but the plants were at the mercy of the sun. Fall is a great time to work on our community
landscape. Now is the time for planting. New shrubs have less planting stress now than any other time of the year. They will
continue to develop roots and be more prepared to deal with next year's summer drought. During the heat of summer, we
held off replacing plants and shrubs within the common areas and Legends' landscape easement areas that had died from
the extreme summer heat. We are now in the process of replacing them.
Our annual tree trimming should also take place in October. We are working with the landscaper on
taking a less aggressive approach so that the trees don't look as devastated through the winter
season.
As a reminder to our Legends residents, the Architectural Guidelines allow you to add color to
your planters within the landscape easement areas. Fall flowers include Pansies, Ornamental
Cabbage, Kale, and Chrysanthemums. You may enjoy visiting a nursery to view all
the available fall flowers that you have to choose from. If you do add color to your
planters, don't forget that you are responsible for feeding and watering the flowers.
The Legends' rear planter renovation project has been resumed. Approximately
20 homes per month will have excess shrubs removed and overgrown shrubs
cut back to knee height. This will create open access to the water meter, sewage
clean out, irrigation control box, air conditioner, and gas meter. To provide a clean
and fresh appearance, we plan to refresh river rock borders and add a two-inch layer
of mulch. We hope to be completed with the project prior to the December holidays.
We want to thank Sarah Sweeney for her service to our committee and the community.
Thank you to all of those who applied for serving on the Landscape Committee, and
next month we will announce and welcome the new members of our Committee to our
community.
