Culture Club
Before you know it the seasonal holidays will be here. Let us
hope that the virus variant is more under control. However, until
then, YCC will be showing a great movie in October, Who Will Write
Our History. The date will be Oct. 13 at 7 pm in Main Clubhouse
Ballroom. There will be plenty of room to spread out and keep your
distance. The Club recommends wearing your masks as a precaution.
No reservations needed. There is no cost to members and a $3 charge
to non-members. Best deal in town! Refreshments will be served.
Come relax and visit with neighbors.
Here are a few teasers about the movie. Academy Award winner,
Adrien Brody, does the voiceover role of Emanuel Ringelblum, the
hero of the story. Three-time Academy Award nominee Joan Allen is
the voice of Rachel Auerbach, the film's narrator. In 1940, days after
the Nazis sealed 450,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto, a secret band of
journalists, scholars, and community leaders decided to fight back.
Led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name
Oyneg Shabes, this clandestine group vows to defeat Nazi lies and
propaganda, not with guns or fists but with pen and paper. This
movie tells their story!
In the meantime, here are a few famous Yiddish proverbs you may
like!
• Better an honest slap in the face than an insincere kiss.
• You do not fall because you are weak: you fall because you think
you are strong.
• You buy yourself an enemy when you lend a man money.
• Women can keep only one secret — their own.
