Happy Cookers
The weather is cooling, leaves are
turning, pumpkin pie spice is in everything
and Christmas decorations are up in the stores. It
must be fall.
At our Happy Cookers gathering in September, we
started "soup weather" with some easy cold soups.
Gazpacho is probably the most famous of all cold
soups. Those in attendance were privileged to try two very different
cold soups thanks to Wendy Ditchfield with her cold fruit soup and
Siran Alajian with her cold yogurt soup.
For our October meeting, we have some fun Halloween activities
planned. Have you carved a pumpkin lately? We don't get many (if
any) trick-or-treaters and there are not many Jack-O-Lanterns in our
neighborhoods. Happy Cookers are here to change that – for a few
of us anyway. To start off the cool, fall season, we will be hosting a
pumpkin carving contest. Everyone bring your own pumpkin and
carving implements and we are going to show the rest of Sun Lakes
how to have a good time (albeit messy). And you know, there will be
prizes awarded. So bring your A-game. We will scoop out the seeds
and roast them in the ovens at the South Clubhouse while we finish
our art displays. Pumpkins seeds are extremely healthy, providing
fiber, protein, magnesium and zinc, among other nutrients. If you
have a favorite fall or pumpkin pie spice food item you'd like to share,
please bring it along.
Happy Cookers meet on the fourth Friday of each month in the
South Clubhouse at 11 am. In October, the meeting will be held on
Oct. 22. Join us, won't you? Everyone is welcome, even if you're not
particularly happy about cooking.
