| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2021 | 3 By Marsha Midgett After a long hot summer, I am looking forward to the change in the air and the falling leaves as trees change colors and we welcome fall. It has been a year with many challenges, but we have managed to get back to some sense of normalcy. It has been a fun summer with music and dancing on the Veranda. At the request of the Safety Committee, the Board recently instructed our Community Patrol to discontinue their main focus of checking for open garage doors during overnight patrols. On average, they found only three or four doors open each night. Instead patrolling will be directed to the perimeters of our community to look for unauthorized entry. During the District Delegate Meeting, a suggestion was made to create a checklist to follow before you retire each night that would include a check to see that your garage door was closed. Neighbors helping neighbors was brought up as well. If you see a garage door open later than normal, reach out and let your neighbor know. Your districts may have other suggestions as well. As I walk my dog or drive around the community in my golf cart, I have noticed many cars exceeding the posted speed limits throughout the community. Stop signs seem to be an afterthought — some cars never even slow down and go right through without even a hint of stopping! As a private community without any type of traffic control, it is up to each and everyone driving a vehicle, whether it is a car or golf cart, to follow the rules of the road. Some social media posts have addressed this topic as well. So please observe the posted speed limit signs, (25 mph on Country Club Dr. and Gleneagles, 20 mph on all other streets, and 15 mph in Lakeside I & II and Fairway Villas). Take the time to stop at all stop signs; anyone walking or riding their bikes will appreciate you. The Budget process is close to being complete. The last Public Workshop will be held Mon., Oct. 4 at 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. It will be broadcast live on Channel 97 and will be posted on the website to view. Creating the 2022 budget has been challenging. We are at a point where some of the infrastructure of Sun Lakes needs attention. While no one wants to see an increase in our assessments, we all must shoulder the financial responsibility of keeping Sun Lakes in good repair. I found this article one day on a doctor's office wall. I took a picture of it, because as I have grown a bit older, the message struck home. I would like to share it with you. The following paragraph is written by Charles Sidwell and it is called "Attitude." "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes." I feel quite privileged to live in Sun Lakes. The beautiful surroundings, the wonderful people, and the many activities available to me in my "senior" years are gifts that I cherish. I read this passage often and strive to have a positive, caring attitude each day. Sometimes that can be difficult, especially when you hear a lot of negativities from others, but I do my best to choose positivity. Quote of the Month: People may hear your words, but they feel your Attitude! From the President's Desk
