Contrary to what it might sound like, this has nothing to do with religion. I'm very much afraid that someone I am married to not only has this condition but that it is hereditary and has been passed on to one of our children. Here's some evidence: 1. On our honeymoon (approximately a thousand years ago), I was not allowed to fall asleep while he was driving. I had to stay alert, reading the map the entire time. This has now morphed into I still can't fall asleep while he's driving because I have to monitor both the navigation system on the dashboard and the Waze app on my phone. 2. When we go to any new destination, near or far, he looks up direction on Google Maps and takes screenshots on his phone. I am now also in charge of these screenshots. So, Nav system, Waze, screenshots. 3. Recently we went to a new for us breakfast place in Temecula. It was right off a main road. Turn left on the adjoining street, sharp right into the parking lot. Leaving, there was another exit from the lot, directly onto the main road. Easy-peasy, make a right, go straight. Nope. He put on the left blinker, confident in the belief he was heading in the right direction. Screaming ensued. When he's confident, I know to be really worried. I admit that I occasionally, very occasionally, suffer from topographical agnostia. Rarely do I get so mixed up that I can't figure out north from south, east from west, especially since there is a little indicator on the rear view window of the car that helps me sort this out. The Hubs, on the other hand is still not sure if Hemet is north or south of San Diego. I can provide many more examples, but I'll leave it by saying moving to California, 2,700 miles from where we lived most of our lives, did not improve the situation. Now we come to the hereditary part. Our older son has a fantastic sense of direction. I have noticed that his nine-year-old son has inherited this. Obviously, they take after me. The same cannot be said for our younger son. He hooks his phone to his nav system even if he's going to the supermarket 10 blocks from his house. This drives his wife crazy, as she has an excellent sense of direction. I really hope our eight-month-old granddaughter takes after her mom! Where Are You Going? By Theresa Rossetti, Resident I've been making this recipe for probably 20 years or more to do something with the overabundance of apples I buy in the fall. Since I'm lazy, I do not peel the apples. No one has ever complained. If you attended a Lifestyle event a few years ago at The Lodge, you might remember sampling a piece. Experimenting On Unsuspecting Friends Part Eight: • 2 cups flour • 1 tsp baking soda • 1/2 tsp salt • 1/2 cup shortening • 1 cup sugar • 2 eggs • 2 cups chopped apples • 1 1/2 TBSP milk • 1/2 tsp vanila • 1 cup chopped nuts • Cinnamon sugar for topping Instructions: Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add flour, baking soda and salt. Add apples, milk and vanilla. Add nuts. Top with cinnamon sugar. Bake at 350 degrees in a 9x5 pan for 55-60 minutes. Raw Apple Bread Ingredients:
