Welcome Aboard!
We are finally back in business and our business is sailing. Once the government removed six-foot
distances and face masks on June 15, we were anxious to get on the water. But we knew there were
a number of new residents who knew nothing about our Sailing Club. So we put together a Meet-n-
Greet luncheon for only new residents. I expected maybe 25 people would show up. To my surprise,
70 new residents came to the Palm Court, and with a sandwich and drink in hand, they listened to our
presentation. Then an excellent Q & A session followed and by the next day we had 50 new, paid-up
members. We had some growing pains trying to accommodate that many new members wanting to sail,
but we made it. Thanks to this group of new members, we also added a new Captain, three new First
Mates and three new Club Officer candidates who are way overqualified. Our captains and mates set
record numbers of sailing dates and by the end of October, all members wanting to sail will have done so.
So,our thanks go to the many people who made this all possible.
Now to those of you who would also enjoy sailing in a stiff breeze and blue seas, we hope you will go
to our website and see how you could join in the fun. Stay well and safe. ~ Commodore Forrest Newburg
