20 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2021 | Happy Halloween! Mark your calendars: Trunk or Treat is back! On Thurs., Oct. 28 at 5 pm, OHCC neighbors will gather in the overflow parking lot to celebrate Halloween. Like community tailgating, everyone brings food to share (some examples: chili, lobster puffs, bloody finger cookies…), the beverages of your choosing, a table and chairs and your best decorated trunk/vehicle. The last six years we've seen decorated cars, golf carts, and motorcycles. Many people come in costume, in search of the elusive title of Best Costume, and the tacky prize that accompanies it. A similar prize will be given for best decorated trunk. So… what's not to love? A chance to meet new people and make new friends, all while wearing a disguise, making it possible you may never recognize each other on campus again! Arrive at 5 pm and get set up. Mingle! Costume parade begins promptly at 5:30 pm, as our professional judges can only stay until 5:45 pm, at which point it will be too dark to see the costumes anyway… We party 'til 9 pm (when, we have learned, the sprinklers come on!), so, singalongs, and dancing are distinctly possible! We'll have music for your enjoyment. See you there — be there or be square! This is a free, host-less party, for adults only. Grab your friends and join us! Pop-up Mondays continue and we have added a new caterer to the line-up. We are introducing "Bella Buzzo,"to include handmade take home Italian food. The menu looks delish, and they look forward to serving OHCC every other Monday from 2 to 5 pm in the overflow parking lot. On Fri., Oct. 29, the Recreation staff will host "Drac You Up," a drop- in social from 1 to 3 pm. Just some informal fun and goodies in the Clubhouse. We may even appear in costume. The Facilities staff have added, Juan Matlala, to their crew. Juan is working the afternoon shift Monday through Friday. Welcome Juan! We still have yet to fill the part-time position on weekends. We said good-bye on Sept. 10 to our Event Coordinator, Angie Ripsco. Angie had been an intricate part of the Recreation Department for six years. She brought creativity and a determination to keep all the events/reservations running smoothly. Angie and her husband will be starting their own business. We wished her well in her new endeavors - she will be missed! We will begin the process to find her replacement. In the meantime, Lisa Wise will be happy to assist anyone needing a reservation or having questions planning their event. Life is like a camera, just focus on what is important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don't work out, just take another shot. Come to the Clubhouse and meet some new friends. See you soon!
