60 60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2021 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2021 | Activities Day in the Main Ballroom was a very good day for our Tennis Club. Our table was near the entrance to the Main Ballroom, a table decorated with trophies and a stand- up sign indicating a list of activities offered by the Tennis Club. Kim Jensen and I enjoyed a number of delightful conversations, two of which eventuated in new memberships. One of those new members was brand new to Sun Lakes, and delighted to join the Tennis Club so conveniently. Our stand-up sign offered a fair summary of the life and times of our Tennis Club. Here is the list of activities outlined on the sign: Monthly Saturday Mixers; Skills taught prior to each Mixer; Doubles Tournaments for Men and for Women; a Mixed Doubles Tournament; Social Events like our Turkey Day, Octoberfest, and Pot-Luck Meals. Further, all Sun Lakers enjoy first class facilities adjacent to the South Clubhouse. All of this is in play to those who join the club for a nominal annual cost of $10 per person. Non-playing residents of Sun Lakes are also invited to join if only for the social events. As for other outdoor sports, the fall season brings relief from our long hot summer. In addition, the Tennis Club is moving quickly into a number of activities that have been delayed as we emerge from the slowdowns of the past two years. In December we will elect our Executive Committee for 2022 at our Quarterly Meeting, and we will celebrate our annual Holiday Party. One of our main emphasis the next several months will be to build our membership. This fall season is a great time to join for the first time. You will be glad you did. Now, another helpful tennis tip from Phil Hazelton who states that the 3-P Rules of Tennis are: Purpose, Patience, and Practicality. Purpose in tennis is your intention to get the ball over the net and in the court. If you run and get to the ball, get it over. Patience requires that you notice that you are in either an offensive or defensive position!! Wait for the right shot. Don't try a shot you don't own. Practicality is all about hitting shots you have previously practiced. Not a shot you saw a pro do on TV. Notice the ability of who you are playing against and work on their weakness. Always, keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game. ~ David Nethercott, Secretary, Sun Lakes Tennis Club. Tennis Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play to around 2 pm. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three-month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly competition, come watch us play.
