FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 57 Why is that pumpkin wearing a smiley face? Because despite being part of Halloween's candy orgy on Oct. 31, he actually lost weight with help from friends and his TOPS group (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Actually, the man who lost the most weight last month was Charles Caldera, who shared his tips for weight loss with the group. His favorite method is intermittent fasting, eating a breakfast late in the morning and another meal midafternoon. Last month was busy for the group. We found a "Freaky Fat- Loss" during the "Pumpkin Workout." Using a medium pumpkin (or a substitute) we did medicine ball exercises. Harry Henderson demonstrated the moves which we attempted to copy. The session ended with a "Squash Aches and Pains Cool Down" of eight moves. The pumpkin has a good amount of load to it, and it's cumbersome and hard to grab, causing you to use more muscle than you would otherwise with a professional medicine ball. Our next session was on tips to avoid being tricked by treats on Halloween. A quarter cup of candy can be 100-200 calories depending on the type of candy. How easy is it to reach into a bowl at a party or when visiting a grandchild's house? Strategies to keep us away from overindulgence were discussed. In addition to aerobic exercise and methods to avoid candy, we had a class on chair yoga by Nyla Cheely who does chair yoga. She explained yoga techniques and then the group participated in a chair yoga session using a DVD. You may find that a group like TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) can help you as well. We meet now on Tuesdays at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. For more information, call Andi Henderson (918) 497- 6491. ~ Andi Henderson TOPS Attention all! It is fall. This time every year, The Valley Wide Recreation and Park District puts on the OLDLYMPICS! Many people from Four Seasons have entered this event in the past years. This year we had seven of our pickleball members enter for the pickleball competition. You are matched with a partner and you play round robin games adding up the score. I am pleased to announce that our members were victorious again. Nancy Barnaby won the gold. Gracy Luna won the silver medal and Tracy Maxwell won the bronze. Good work all! They received their medals at an awards banquet in October. All competitions happen in and around Hemet. They even got a t-shirt! So, next fall if you like swimming, table tennis, track and field, tennis, cards, bingo, bowling, billiards, bench press, golf, horseshoes, lawn bowling, and many other events call (951) 487-9234 and they will send you the sign up information. You will also be put on the mailing list to receive the paper work and information by mail each year. It is a fun event and a chance to meet many new people. You need to be 50 years or older. So hope to see you next year! Questions? Call me. ~ Marty Key, (562) 331-0817 Pickleball Our proud winners: Nancy Barnaby gold, Tracy Maxwell bronze, and Gracy Luna silver. Congrats! Here is the flyer with contact numbers for next year. So many events to choose from Four Season Pickleball players ready to show what they can do. We have won gold and silver almost every year
