58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 In case anyone has any doubts about the level of talent that we have in the Four Seasons Table Tennis Club, one need not look further than the medal winners at this year's Oldlympics (pictured above), which were held from Sept. 17 through Oct. 5. For the uninitiated, the Oldlympics is a multi-sport competition for athletes and non-athletes over 50 years of age who are trying to recapture those days of old when sudden body movements failed to pose any danger to life and limb. This year, ping pong fanatics from all over the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley gathered at a Community Center in Hemet to duke it out for medal contention. Members of the Four Seasons Table Tennis Club did not disappoint! Lian Lee and Jannine Baker, both of whom had to be cajoled into even competing in the Oldlympics, won Silver and Bronze medals in the singles event respectively, and Niles Sundstrom who that day was celebrating a very notable birthday, took home nothing less than a Gold Medal in his age group. In doubles play, I had the great fortune to draw Pete Antoine as my partner, where we managed to go undefeated and take home Gold as well. A great time was had by all, and we can't wait for next year's event. Returning to our local club, there is nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the new faces grace the Courts Main Room with their exemplary table tennis skills. Last week we played with a terrific table tennis player named Jim Wong, who had only been in the neighborhood for 10 days. Yesterday we spotted another skilled player named Brent Stewart, who will hopefully start joining our daily 2 pm sessions on a regular basis. The Four Seasons Table Tennis Club welcomes players of all skills and stripes. We have plenty of ping pong paddles and balls if you don't have your own equipment, and in case you were curious, the HOA has confirmed that they will replace the recently broken Kettler with a brand new table, which will get us back to three units in the room. The ping pong tables are set up in The Courts Main Room at pretty much all hours that the facility is open, with the exception of a few hours in the morning when the yoga club uses the space, and occasionally in the late afternoon hours at the request of other clubs. Please come join us and see how much fun you have been missing. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@gmail.com Table Tennis Ping pong (L-R) Jeannine Baker, Pete Antoine, Bob Rubenstein, Niles Sundstrom, Lian Lee.
