FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2021 47 November is here along with the planning for gatherings for the holidays. Your Taste d'Vine Wine Club would like to help you with that age old question — which wine would be best with the meal? One of our favorite presenters, Glenn Richards, will draw upon his extensive experience in the wine industry to help us choose "Festive Thanksgiving Wines." Glenn has been the National Sales Manager for Sterling Vineyards, Chateau St. Jean, and Buckingham Wild Imports. We will also be treated to a foodie moment with Teri Davidson, to make your meal even better! Join us Nov. 18 (we meet the third Thursday of each month) in the Ballroom. Doors open at 5:15 pm with the meeting starting at 6 pm. Please bring a favorite wine to share with your table, along with an appetizer such as crackers, cheese, or fruit. Also, please bring two glasses for tasting. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for resident guests. Look for your Bacchus Letter via email for any further information! For info, please contact Gracy Luna at (951) 292-3624. ~ Gracy Luna Taste d'Vine MIXED BAG What do an electrical engineer, former government workers, computer professionals, and a church missionary have in common? They are all members of the Four Seasons Beaumont Amateur Radio Club. Ham radio got its start relaying news and weather reports from farm to farm. The 13 words per minute Morse Code requirement was a major stumbling block for a lot of people. The FCC dropped this requirement almost 20 years ago. So now all you have to do is pass a written test with a score of 75 percent or better to become a ham radio operator. Ham Radio Operators were little boys who were curious about their neighbor's antenna tower or former Navy Communications personnel who spent eight weeks, eight hours a day learning Morse Code and later we had CB Radio Operators. The once popular CB Radio became populated with useless chatter and lost popularity with the use of cell phones. A ham radio station is basically a radio, a power supply, and an antenna. Up until about 10 years ago you needed a powerful amplifier to enable your signal to be heard farther away. The recent use of computers has changed all of that. The internet is used to send signals all around the world. The use of computers to send signals digitally has recently attracted lots of computer professionals to the ham radio ranks. The Mesh System which is utilized by the military and emergency communications can work with or without a computer and it is fairly inexpensive (usually under $300). The only problem with this set up is that you must have other Mesh operators nearby and you have to connect with them by line of sight. Come join us on the last Friday of the month. The Four Seasons Beaumont Amateur Radio Club meeting will be held at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room on Fri., Nov. 25. ~ Michael Mendoza, srmendoza@verizon.net and Jim Peterson, jim.k6jwp@gmail. com Radio Club Miei amici (My friends) The Italian American Club met at The Courts on Oct. 16, starting at 6 pm. We played an Italian trivia game during the meeting. It was a lot of fun and our members had a great time. Barbara Dipoma and her steering committee planned "Italian Trivia." We answered questions about Italy, foods of Italy, movies with Italian actors, and in general, everything Italian. Prizes were awarded to the winning table in each of the phases. Win or lose, we had a great time and many laughs about what we knew or thought we knew as Italians. Next month's plans are being made to have an Italian meal catered. Nothing has been firmed up yet, but several options are being reviewed. Watch your emails, the Daily Report, or the HOA website for more information. Our membership is open to all residents living in Four Seasons, so put Nov. 11 on your calendar. Remember you do not have to be Italian to join our club and come to our meetings. We would love to have you visit with us. ~ Barbara Dipoma (805) 377-2616 and Jerry Monahan (951) 212-8898 Italian American Club
