Art Lovers Last April many of us toured the VETART.ORG bronze foundry in Fallbrook to see their bronze and metal sculptures. Recently we visited their other facility in Vista at 2422 Cades Way, Vista 92081. Art Therapist, Jill Brenegan, above left, and Bruce Fennigkoh, glass artist, were our guides at the Vista facility. Changing lives through art, the Veterans Art Project believes that veterans can find healing through the arts while working through the life-changing process of transitioning from military to civilian life. This huge space is dedicated to ceramic and glass works. There are dozens of pottery wheels and shelves filled with pieces ready for firing. Jill showed us three ornately, bejeweled ceramic heads, one of which contained a hidden flask inside a golden dagger. Glass work is created in molds and then fired. Bruce showed us bags of multi- colored shards of glass that are fired to create interesting designs. In the photo above center, he is holding his glass piece which will be polished and hung in a window. Located at 1775 Dove Lane in Carlsbad, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery's walls are painted in bright greens and reds, colors often used in Frida Kahlo's paintings and her garden. This exhibit, The Gardens of Frida Kahlo, depicts artifacts and gardens of Casa Azul (Blue House) the home she shared with her husband, famed muralist Diego Rivera. Kitchen articles, candles, painting supplies and even clothing typical of Oaxacan women are displayed as well as several of Kahlo's paintings (self-portrait above right). Kahlo enjoyed painting still lives of fruit and flowers likely to be found in the markets of Coyoacán. "I paint flowers so they will not die." Congratulations to Art Lovers Club member, Betty Anne Kreutziger who has had two of her paintings selected for the Open Juried Show at the North Coastal Art Gallery (formerly called C.O.A.L.) located at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad. All paintings and sculptures are for sale at great prices! This show has drawn professional artists from Orange County and San Diego as well as other areas. Art Room We hope you have experienced our latest Art Studio installation featuring the talented creations of some of our favorite artists here in Ocean Hills: Frank Boynton, Mike McCaslin, Tom Murphy, Ernie Pick, Malcolm Reinhardt, Harvey Tilker, and Gary Warmuth. Many of them have painted in various mediums over the years; others have started painting more recently. Each artist brings his own style, and the amazing, wonderful result is a combined display of contrasts in color, subjects, texture and style. It's a must see! We're never sure what creative surprises will come through the door on installation morning. We love meeting the artists and figuring out a layout that we find pleasing; we hope that you agree. If you would like to participate in a future exhibit, please call Judy Harris or Lainy Vinikow, we're in the directory. 26 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2021 |
