20 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2021 | Only two months to go until the end of 2021. It appears we are still experiencing some hesitation regarding attendance in the larger group gatherings. Residents and their guests are choosing whether they want to wear a mask in the Clubhouse. We have posted that those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask when visiting. The Village Vets Club and the Recreation Department have been reviewing programming possibilities to recognize our veterans. Last year we experienced a grand parade with a brigade of vehicles winding through the streets of OHCC. With trash day happening on Thurs., Nov. 11, and not postponed for this holiday, the Vets decided a parade would not be feasible. So, we are at an 'impasse' in coming up with a plan for a celebration to include a large gathering indoors. The Recreation Department will not let the day go by without some sort of activity to honor those who have served. We thank each of you who have served this great country! The Annual Toy Drive sponsored by the Woodchucks is Sat. Nov. 13 in the Overflow Parking Lot. Please see their article in this publication for more of the details. Our Event Coordinator position has been filled. Estee Aragon (at left) came on board Oct. 11 and is hitting the ground running. She has prior HOA management, recreation, and event experience. She loves floral arranging, event planning, and sparkles with enthusiasm. She has a pet pig that weighs 150 pounds, two dogs, a cat and a male chinchilla at home, so come on by and ask her about dear "Henry!" Our thanks to all our SERT Club volunteers and Walgreens for their help in assisting our Drive Thru Flu Shot Clinic. They were able to administer 240 shots in the eight-hour shift. As the boosters become available, be sure to contact Walgreens for additional vaccinations. Shred Day is on its way, our thanks to Securitas (CPS) who has agreed to sponsor this, again. The event will be held where the turnaround is on Cannon Road from 9 am – 12 pm on Sat., Nov. 20, outside the Front Gate. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call the Front Gate at (760) 758-7111. Residents DO NOT need to show proof of residency. All items will be disposed of in front of each resident/homeowner. Acceptable materials include paper, cardboard, mylar, vellum, floppy disks, video and audio cassettes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, microfilm and microfiche. System can handle staples, paperclips, comb-binding, plastic snap-binds, and plastic spiral binds. ITEMS NOT DESTROYED AT ON-SITE EVENT: computer hard drives, magnetic back-up tapes, and printer back-up spools. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Our Clubhouse will close at 5 pm on Thanksgiving Day so that the staff can go home to enjoy their holiday dinners with family. Right after the weekend turkey settles, a 9 to 10 foot lighted holiday tree will brighten the Clubhouse Front Lobby. The "oohs and aahs" will begin, as always, decorated by resident Bob Wong and his crew of dedicated elves. Let the holidays begin! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
