36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2021 | The Bereavement Support Group meets Sundays in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room from 3 to 4:30 pm. This group is designed to provide emotional support to any resident mourning the death of a spouse, relationship, child, parent, or beloved pet. We gather together as "hearts with ears" in absolute confidentiality in a safe shared place where strangers may become friends. Each of us is unique; our grief cannot be identical to any other, and the way to get to the other side of your grief is to "go through." For more info, call Barbara Searcy at (951) 663-3382. Bereavement Group I just love this time of year! My Christmas tree is up and I sit and admire it while drinking my coffee, and enjoying all the memories of the past Christmas celebrations held at my home over the years. I hope each of you is able to be with your family and good friends to make new memories. Whatever holiday you celebrate (Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa) I wish you a happy and safe one. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thursday Dec. 16 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our guest speaker this month is Dr. Constance Welebir. She is the President and Founder of Axiom Research. Not only does Axiom Research conduct clinical trials for Alzheimer's victims, it conducts trials for many other conditions, including migraine headaches, depression and PTSD. This is a powerful guest speaker and one you do not want to miss. This meeting is packed with information for you. ALL are welcome. Don't forget about our program in the Arts & Crafts Room. We entertain your loved one while you are at the meeting. We offer entertainment, games, and fun. Drop them off and go on to the meeting. If you have any questions and would like to learn more about our group or Memory Loss, call Diane at (951) 769-0130, Doug at (360) 840-5559, or Anne at (951) 845-8700. ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE What it is: The most common cause of dementia, Alzheimer's affects an estimated 60 to 80 percent of all people with dementia. The disease, which is believed to be caused by plaques and tangles that form in the brain, destroying both the brain cells and the connections between them, can start developing years before any symptoms appear. Most people with Alzheimer's start experiencing symptoms in their 60s or 70s or even later, but in about five percent of cases, symptoms may start appearing at a younger age. One hallmark of Alzheimer's is a steady progression of symptoms over several years. Next month: Vascular Dementia. Caregiver Support Group If you live alone and would enjoy the benefit of having a daily check on your well being by THE ALL IS WELL group, please register your interest by calling Barbara Searcy at (951) 663-3382.
