32 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2021 | CLUB NEWS We had our last campers and glampers trip in October, celebrating Halloween and Oktoberfest at the Flying Flags RV Resort and Sideways Inn in Buellton, CA. We had great participation, as there were forty members who went on that trip. I would like to thank everyone who brought things and helped with setting up and breaking down tables, pop-up canopies, portable fire pits, games, delicious potluck dishes, made tour and dinner reservations, wore costumes, participated in the activities and most of all, made the trip so much fun. We are almost to the end of 2021, and it's been another successful year for The Colony Roadrunners RV Club. First, we have reached a new high for campers and glampers membership, as we now have 80 members. Secondly, we had three outings this year that were very well attended: Chula Vista, Lake Tahoe and Buellton. In fact, there was so much enthusiasm that all the participants from those trips are already asking for next year's trip schedule. We hope that everyone in The Colony who has been coping with the pandemic for the last couple of years is safe, healthy and ready to fully resume the active life once again. Come and join The Colony Roadrunners RV Club and enjoy the company of "unsupervised seniors" having lots of fun! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Roadrunners RV Club By Leo Alonzo, 714-473-9969 Ellen Dicaire, our featured Artist for December, has lived in The Colony since 2012. This is her first time exhibiting her artwork in our Clubhouse Lobby. Ellen started painting as a hobby when she was 75. She is self-taught, but later took a class in acrylic painting and much later enrolled in a Color Theory class with instructor Kathy Pickett. She found the Color Theory class to be a valuable tool. Although she loves painting in acrylics, she started painting in watercolor about five years ago and is drawn to the neatness watercolor painting offers. Ellen does paint some landscapes, but is drawn to painting flowers and birds. Like most of the artists in The Colony, Ellen is looking forward to participating in the Gem of The Valley Art Association. We know you will enjoy the works of this new exhibitor. Thank you, Ellen, for sharing your beautiful paintings with us. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766
