COMMITTEE NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2021 | 17 By Gloria Brosky & Diane Schultz As winter arrives, and hopefully a little more rainfall, consider giving your wrought iron gates and fences a coat of paint. This will help protect the metal, especially if you have small rust spots. Please read the Architectural Guidelines before beginning a home improvement project. Homeowners may feel the committee is too controlling when denying an application. That is not the case. We must follow the guidelines. Only the Board can issue a variance to the rules. Remember side yard fencing should be the height of the existing fence. The original fences from the builder are 66 inches in height. Therefore, replacements made of vinyl or wood must be that same height. We are excited about the new door and shutter colors added to our paint book. Please remember they are not allowed as a trim or pop-out color. What if we did not have CC&Rs and guidelines? After driving around and viewing the deterioration of some housing tracts, we are happy to live in a community with standards that make our community aesthetically pleasing and keep the property values up. We are hearing from homeowners that they were told their stucco house paint would last 30 years. If you have not painted your house in over 10 years, please do so. Local paint stores are telling us quality paint only lasts seven to 10 years in our area due partially to our hot environment. Happy Holidays from the ACC! ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL ACCESS CONTROL By Bruce Hartwig, 696-5115 The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to The Colony HOA Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. In the event of a major disaster, our committee will work hand-in-hand with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of all Colony residents. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony and the effectiveness of Community Patrol. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol ("Nordic Security"). These reports include traffic enforcement, emergency responses, and incident reports. The monthly report for October from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare for the Association. Security Statistics There was a total of 20,166 gate entries recorded, consisting of guests, recreational vehicles, vendors and golfers. Nordic Security performed 8 property/residence checks and issued 15 citations for stop sign violations. There were 21 medical, fire and police incidents. Nordic cited 21 residents for various parking violations, guest pass violations, and guest/vendor violations. Fourteen residents were cited for putting trash cans out too early and/or not putting them away, and 19 garage doors were found to be open. Nordic made calls to each resident to advise them to close their garage doors. Nordic responded to 33 miscellaneous incidents related to welfare checks, trespassers, vehicle accidents, tailgating, suspicious persons, broken gates, deceased residents, mailbox break-ins, gate strikes, vehicle break-ins, stolen vehicles, signage, and disorderly conduct. Community Patrol observes 20 to 30 open garage doors a month during the late evening hours through early morning, and places calls to the residents to remind them to close their garage doors. This is a safety issue, so please remember to close your garage door upon entering/leaving your residence – and double check that it is closed before you retire for the night.
