Wishing you all a blessed Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and healthy and happy December! Like most of you, the Neighborhood Watch Steering Committee members are excited to soon welcome 2022, with great hope it brings much joy, good health, happiness and hopefully, the end of COVID! We hope you attended the November Neighborhood Watch Meeting to hear James Bean, Director of Operations for the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District. He covered many topics, including the sources of our Beaumont water, aquifers, and water conservation efforts needed to ensure sufficient water for our future needs. Our very own Four Seasons resident, retired Meteorologist Mel Zeldin, also gave a very informative talk and Powerpoint presentation on weather conditions, wind conditions, La Niña and El Niño weather patterns and how they effect global weather and our local climate conditions. We are very fortunate to have such an experienced and knowledgeable meteorologist living in our community! Bean also shared that scientists and meteorologists have predicted a La Niña winter. This grim news means that we will have a warmer and drier winter than normal, thus contributing to our already severe drought. After five years of drought, many California rivers, lakes, and man-made reservoirs are at record low levels. Over 40 counties in California have already implemented water restrictions. There are many ways you can help conserve water at home. Here are a few suggestions that will help preserve our Beaumont water supply, and lower your water bills too. 1. Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth. 2. Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load. 3. Use low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators. 4. Fix any leaks. 5. Install a dual flush or low flow toilet or put a conversion kit on your existing toilets. 6. Don't overwater your lawn or water during peak periods, and install rain sensors on irrigation systems. 7. Monitor your water usage on your water bill. 8. While walking around our community, report broken water pipes or sprinkler heads to the HOA or submit a form online to the Landscape Committee. Recently, the Neighborhood Watch Committee has been notified of phone and email scams and even scammers attempting contact at their homes. These reports have increased significantly in the past six months. We ask all residents thoroughly screen vendors you invite into your home for your safety and your neighbors as well. We are getting reports of salespeople going door to door after being invited into the community by a resident. This is not allowed, so please do not open your door to an uninvited vendor and immediately call The Lodge to report the name of the company and a description of the person and their vehicle. It has also been brought to our attention that an email virus has struck some residents. Apparently the email virus begins with the words, "Hey, will you do me a favor…" and if opened, attaches itself to your contact list. It has infected several email accounts within our community, so please be aware of this and do not open an email that begins with that phrase or from someone that you do not recognize. Our next Neighborhood Watch meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 10 am. We have invited a speaker from the Riverside County Office on Aging. Due to recent reports of possible elder abuse and/or neglect in our community, we felt it would be helpful to have a professional come and address these issues. Along with verbal and physical abuse, many elderly people can also become the victims of financial abuse. As we age and become more dependent on others to assist us with our financial dealings, we can easily become prey to scams that allow others to embezzle our money, property, etc. Our guest speaker will offer advice to our residents on how to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes and answer your questions. Please plan to attend, as the information will be extremely useful. ~ Donna Gilbreth, Neighborhood Watch Steering Committee, dgilbreth52@gmail. com 26 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2021 Neighborhood Watch WATER CONSERVATION, SCAMS, AND ELDER ABUSE
