8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2021 | Facilities Committee As we close out the year 2021, your Facilities Committee has continued to keep up with the maintenance of our common area despite experiencing some setbacks from the COVID virus. Our meetings were conducted by Zoom due to the COVID restrictions, but we were able to keep up with our inspections of the community and continue with new projects to ensure the community remains in top shape. A highlight of some of the projects involving the Facilities Committee are listed as follows: • Leaf guards installed over gutters to prevent water damage to our buildings. • Bird deterrents installed on sports court lighting fixtures. • Reupholstered lobby chairs after numerous attempts to purchase new chairs that resulted in non-delivery due to COVID restrictions within the manufacturing businesses. • All lights in the tennis and pickleball courts were upgraded to LED lights. • New lighting was added to the front gate and the World Cup gate to address dark areas. • The pool solar heating system was inspected and readjusted so the pool can be heated with solar instead of using the more expensive natural gas. • The Lodge parking lot lights and poles are scheduled to be painted but have been delayed due to a paint shortage. • The Lodge exterior is scheduled to be painted but has been delayed due to a paint shortage. • In July, the Facilities Committee resumed our meetings in The Lodge. • Perimeter fence repair and painting was started and will continue until all perimeter fencing is repaired and painted. • More solar bollard lighting was installed along Four Seasons Boulevard, World Cup, and in the Legends area. • A new cement slab was poured with a surround built to move the pool chlorine out of the pool equipment room. • Replacement of the dry rotted trellis was started with the result being a new Alumawood top on all structures in the shuffleboard and bocce courts. • A new monitor was purchased and installed in the conference room to eliminate the high cost of paper packets and copying for each meeting. • A new janitorial service, Personal Touch, was awarded a contract to clean the lodge and associated buildings. • Street asphalt repair and replacement began in November with the repaving of Eagle Lane. These projects are in addition to the incidental repairs that surface throughout the year, including emergency pool repairs, front and rear gate repairs, etc. The projects initiated by the Facilities Committee consist of many high dollar projects that cost hundreds of dollars to complete. Our committee members are very aware of the cost and strive to get the best companies at a reasonable price. New members were added to the committee, but we lost Dennis Harris and former Facilities member Ken Pounders last year. 2022 will start shortly with new improvements and projects that enhance the overall condition of our community. The month of December is upon us. Take a few minutes from your busy holiday schedule to visit the library. We have a nice selection of holiday and winter-themed books to put you in the holiday mood. The hardbound fiction displayed is from 2013-2021. The paperback books displayed are from 2017-2021. The non-fiction books can be found in the cabinets under the paperback bins. If you have not been in the library lately, the magazines are back! The rack is overflowing. Thank you for the donations. Only magazines from the current three months are being displayed. Our Four Season authors have been so generous with their donations to our library. You will find these books displayed throughout the library. Some of the books are on the coffee table while others can be found on the Four Seasons author shelves below the hardbound books. All of the authors have donated these books at their own expense. Please return them as quickly as possible so that other residents may enjoy them. Our Four Seasons author series began in September with Vicki Hitt. In November, we hosted Ellyn Wolfe. We will continue hosting Four Seasons authors in the new year. The announcements will appear in the email blasts, and flyers will be available in the library. Your book donations have been greatly appreciated by the Library Committee and the residents. The selection of books from 2020 and 2021 has increased significantly in the last few months. The committee has noticed that some of these donations have been left stacked on the floor of the library. Books, bags, and boxes left on the floor are a tripping hazard. We need to make sure that our residents who have low vision, use canes, walkers, or wheelchairs have ample room to move about the library. When donating books, please use the large baskets on the back table. These baskets are also used for returning books, puzzles and magazines. Thank you for your help with this situation. The puzzles are a lovely addition to our library collection. There are puzzles for all abilities among our collection. Puzzles are a great way to keep holiday guests and family busy. Until next month remember… read more books! ~ Sue Thoughts from Blair: "Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation." ~Walter Cronkite Library Committee
