10 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2021 | The Community Image and Marketing Committee As you drive through the front entrance to our Community, you've probably noticed a lot of changes going on and work being done. That's because the initial work to redesign our front entry has finally begun. Currently, the old monuments are having their tile removed, being re-stuccoed and repainted in order to transform them into planter retaining walls in anticipation of our new monument's arrival in the next several weeks. Turf removal to accommodate the new monument will also be done, as well as moving the existing ground light fixtures to highlight plantings. You may also see work in the median area, where the existing three flag poles are being reduced to just one that will fly the American flag. Painting and work around the guard house is also on-going. We are all very excited to see this long-awaited project take shape and to enhance our beautiful Community. The Committee continues to meet regularly each month to address issues and suggestions from residents and committees. Recently, we worked with ARC to recommend a new color for awnings, a beautiful blue color that will continue our Greek/Mediterranean theme. We also worked with staff on new holiday decor for the Clubhouse and entry/exit gates. We continue to work closely with the HOA to enhance and improve our Community image, to ensure consistency of our message and protect home values. The Committee welcomes all residents observations and comments. We wish everyone happy holidays! From the members of the committee: Tom Murphy (Co-Chair) twmmurphy@gmail.com, Judy Caston (Co-Chair) Jeff Mowers (Vice-Chair), Christy Cooper, Christine Ross, Marcy Samoiloff and Nancy Trimino. Landscape Committee Ocean Hills Country Club has had a large turnover of residents in the last year or so; some of whom are from out of state and may not know that most of California is in a severe drought. It has always been arid in Southern California as we actually live in a Mediterranean climate; however global warming has dealt us a significant blow. Minimal snowfall from Northern California along with a dearth of water from the Colorado River has decreased the amount of water available to us. Our minimal rainfall in recent years has been reduced to an oddity. Although Oceanside water is getting more expensive, "I can afford it!" is not the answer to keeping yards watered. Cooperative conservation is what we need to practice so that there is enough water for all Californians, whether used by residents, agriculture, or industries. Here are some old-fashioned water-saving methods to consider if willing and physically able: While waiting for the hot water to flow into the shower, fill a "shower bucket" with that cold water. After the shower, transport the "shower bucket" to the back yard to water your garden. By the way, this is also a great weight-lifting exercise. You can also use that water to flush your toilet. Just pour it in the toilet swiftly. Some other ideas: • If your patio is cluttered with leaves, please don't hose it down. Sweeping your patio is another good exercise. • Did you know that most modern dishwashers use less water than washing dishes by hand? • Water your plants before 9 am or after 7 pm so that your plants get the benefits of watering without the downside of evaporation. • Water early in the day as plants watered under the beating sun may get "sun burned." • Scheduling short, multiple watering cycles allows water to soak in rather than running off. While walking in the evening, if you see that a sprinkler is malfunctioning and pouring water on a driveway or the street; please call the Community Patrol at (760) 758-7111. Community Patrol will see that the proper maintenance people are notified. The City of Oceanside has a customer Portal which will, after you answer some questions, give you access to features that could help you customize how you can save water.
