Theatre Arts 12 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2021 | October was very good to our neighbors. We had the privilege of attending our first in-person production on Oct. 4. We were informed and entertained by the Quad Collective's interactive presentation of "Women Talk: Women of History." The program was interesting and informative, the production value rated A+, and the artwork was beautiful. (Here's just a small sample.) Theatre Arts' Play Readers' Theater will present its final Zoom Play production of 2021 on Wed., Dec. 15 at 3 pm. You will be entertained by the three comedies: The Speeding Ticket, by Bob Naquin featuring Sunny Griffin, Bill Schroeder and Sherrie Scoby; Bagels, by Art Schulman will feature Ros Nesler and Jody Gorran; and The Prize, by Arthur Keyser features Robert Genat, Valerie Thompson and Lois Powazek. Our zoom presentations are directed by Anita Simons and produced by Jody Gorran. Thanks to a generous donation from Jody, we are able to offer our Zoom productions to ALL RESIDENTS OF OHCC. You can watch for the link on NextDoor, talk to a member about signing up to watch or better yet JOIN OHCC Theatre Arts' club. Remember: Only members will receive an invitation to view our zoom shows, so now is the time to join. Questions? Ask Anita via email asimonsays@gmail.com. Actors' Workshop is busy preparing Readers' Theatre scripts, including finding a theme to center the literature around and adding favorite authors and different types of literature. The current assignment revolves around the theme "Take A Chance." Two groups will perform for each other in the near future. We are also working on a performance of the childhood classic, "The Littlest Angel." Best of all, we are having fun and learning all about stage acting. All we need now is an audience! Please consider joining by contacting Sally (moki2@cox.net). Classes are Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, in the Majorca Room. Our monthly meeting was held on Nov. 1. This was a fun, busy night for Theatre Arts members. We elected officers for 2022: Jean Hefler, President; Lois Powazek, Vice-President; Phyllis Buvel, Treasurer; and Naomi B Katz, Secretary. And, for entertainment, Diane Scholfield, a volunteer from Carlsbad's Museum of Making Music presented all of us with the background needed to fully enjoy the museum next time one visits in person. It was an informative and fun evening learning about the reopening of the Museum of Making Music. We even got to try out some musical instruments. If you missed it, you can watch on OHCC website ON DEMAND. We are so fortunate to have this museum right next door in Carlsbad. If you missed the meeting, look for it and also the October meeting on the OHCC TV website or search on Channel 1960. Our next Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18 at noon, in the Majorca Room. Board meetings are open to all members, so please do come and join us. Saving the best for last: Our Dec. 6 party - Curtains Up – Let the Party Begin – promises to be big fun for all. We'll have food provided by Bobby's Hideaway with music provided by Ricky Rivas. The cost is $35 per person. Call Ros Nesler at (619) 277-3529 with any questions. We will set up with tables of 10. Bring your checks, made out to OH Theatre Arts, to the front desk by Dec. 3. Open to all residents. Proof of vaccination(s) will be required. Flyers have been placed in your tubes with all the details! Join Theatre Arts so you can participate in all of our entertainment and activities. If you were NOT a member in 2020, or are a NEW RESIDENT of OHCC, please bring a check to the front desk for annual dues in the amount of $10 per person to be put in the Theatre Arts folder. Make sure your check has your name, address, phone number and email address on it. If you pay before January, your membership will continue through 2022! Check out our new and improved website, where you can read of our activities, read past OHCC Living articles, and explore our past and future productions. http://www.ohccdg.wixsite.com/theatrearts. OHSPA What is OHSPA? It is the Ocean Hills Society for the Performing Arts! We are very excited to have four performances scheduled for 2022 and really happy that three of the concerts that were scheduled for this year (2021) stayed with us and agreed to come back in 2022! That certainly saved our "budget!" The first concert will be Sat., Feb. 26, 2022, starring Four by Four! (Beach Boys, Beatles, Bee-Gees and Motown). A stellar cast of FOUR performers present the legendary hits of FOUR of the most iconic musical styles in pop music history. You will instantly recognize classic pop songs performed by these dynamic stars. The dynamic stars of FOUR BY FOUR perform these instantly recognizable classic pop songs in fully staged and choreographed production numbers. Informative and often humorous banter ties all of this extraordinary music together for an evening of feel good, raise-the- roof entertainment. Tickets will go on sale in late January 2022. If you decide to be a Star Donor, you can choose your seats now for all four concerts in 2022. Call Donna Russell (760-945-5558) for more information and remember to save the date: Feb. 26, 2022.
