The OHCC Billiards Club held our annual Members Meeting on the
Palm Court on Oct. 14. The slate of officers was approved for 2022:
President, Charlie Payne; Vice President/Tournaments, Cal Roe;
Vice President/Training, Gary Pelcher; Treasurer, Kathy Thornton;
Secretary, Janice Pelcher.
After the meeting, the traditional 8-Ball Club Championship was
held. Eight players turned out, and they played four matches each
against different opponents. The object of 8-Ball is to sink your
group of seven balls and then the 8-ball to win. The "B" skill players
were given a handicap to make their matches against "A" skill players
more competitive. Once the stripe/solid groups were established, "B"
skill players could remove three balls of their choice. The four players
with the best record qualified for the cash paying final rounds.
Last month Leo Beeloo won all but one of his matches, but he did
not win a match this day. One of Leo's losses came when he sank
the 8-ball for the win, but the cue ball kept rolling and rolling into
a pocket for a scratch and a LOSS. Gary Webb won one match; Ken
Schreiner, Cal Roe and Charlie Payne each won two; John Mitchell
and Dick Salo won three; and Gary Pelcher won four matches.
A tie-breaker match between Charlie Payne and Cal Roe was hard
fought with numerous shots on the 8-ball from impossible shot-
making cue ball positions. Charlie won to make the Final Four.
In the semi-finals, Charlie Payne played Gary Pelcher with Gary
winning. John Mitchell played Dick Salo, a "B" skilled player, with
John winning. The '3-4 final' match was won by Charlie for 3rd place
and $10 over Dick, who got $5 for 4th place. The '1-2 final' match was
won by Gary for 1st place and $50 with John in 2nd place for $25.
