| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2021 | 37 The Aerobics Club would like to invite any OHCC resident to participate in a one-time FREE aerobics class on Mon., Jan. 3, 2022. The class will take place in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am. All levels of fitness are welcome. Our expert instructor, Christine Alesiani, will lead the class through a low to no impact workout where you can work at your own pace. The class consists of a warm up followed by an aerobic session and a cool down. We use weights for some upper body strength training during the last 10 minutes of class, or you can perform the moves without weights. Bring water to drink so that you can stay hydrated. Future classes are $5 each. You can attend two paid classes (after the free class on 1/3/22) without joining the club. The annual club dues are $6 If your new year's resolution is to engage in more activity, this class may be for you! Aerobics Swim, Surf & Wellness Swim Surf and Wellness Club is looking for new members. If you have ever enjoyed our beautiful pool, we want YOU! Have you spent a quiet hour soaking up the sun poolside or reading a good book while overlooking pool activity? Ever brought your kids or grandkids for a fun splash? Maybe you're a lap swimmer, or an aqua exercise enthusiast. Or maybe you enjoy meeting friends in the warm water and splashing about. The SSW Club wants to extend an invitation for membership to all categories of pool lovers. Come and check out our table at Do Dues Day on Sat., Jan. 8. Meet some club members and officers and find out what SSW is all about. Our next members only meeting will be on Thurs., Jan. 20 from 6:30 to 8 pm. Our featured speaker will be club president Robin Bleeker, who will speak about "preventing falls" in the OHCC age group. Robin is a retired physical therapist and has a master's degree in Motor Learning, which is the study of movement skills. Robin will offer advice about staying safe in our homes and outside, as well as teaching some exercises to decrease the likelihood of falling. Member Spotlight: This month we highlight Frank Tanner, OHCC resident and master swimmer. Frank recently attended the World Senior Games in St. George, Utah where he won an astonishing eight gold medals! Frank was raised in Hollywood and went to USC. He swam in both high school and college. He lived in Hawaii for 13 years, where he did a lot of surfing. From there, he and wife Sue moved to Vista, and they have lived in OHCC for 11 years. When Frank turned 60, he became interested in Masters swimming. He participates in the individual medley (all four strokes) as well as various lengths of freestyle. At the Games this year, Frank set a new record in the 100-meter individual medley, and he also set a new record in the 100-meter breaststroke. Oh, did I mention that Frank is 90 years young? He swims three times a week at OHCC and also golfs twice a week. He and Sue have eight children, 35 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. In addition to swimming, Frank enjoys gardening. The Tanners have several fruit trees - papaya, apple, tangerine, avocado, and peach. His papaya tree yielded 20 papayas this year. Frank, you set a great example for the rest of us!
