40 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2021 |
As we end this season our Fleet Captain Charlie
Cappello reported that since July, we had 24 sailings
with 107 members as crew. Now to better prepare them,
Charlie will be teaching a Basic Sailing 101 workshop,
for members only, on December 9th. Sign up at the
Clubhouse. Greetings to you all from the beauty and
wonder of day sailing on sparkling blue SD waters with
9 knots of fresh wind blowing in your face and filling
your boats sails.
Sailing at sea is a wondrous thing to behold. Right in
the midst of feeling that heel of the boat or the sound of
the jib billowing out and being pulled around the mast
as you Come About on a new heading… you also get
the chance to learn some important Life Lessons that
apply on land as well as at sea.
Remember to keep your boat headed in the right direction for your
life… and lean into the wind and hold tight to the helm to maintain
your heading and balance through the strong winds of life.
Yes, also remember… "Anything worth doing well and enjoying,
is worth having the occasion properly catered," so
bring the proper cuisine for the occasion and enjoy the
journey.
As you can see, First Mate Larry See knows this
lesson well.
Other important salty lessons include sharing the
journey with your own caring Captain or First Mate
to encourage you through the tough times and share
the beauty of sunsets together, anchored off an island
shore…. and let us not forget at the end of the day…
so much of time well spent, includes sharing time with
friends and others we meet along the way…. so come
join us for some smiling faces, a stiff breeze, and some
blue water seas.
Now that our sailing season is drawing to a close, I
want to thank you all for allowing me over the years to share these
sailing club articles with you. It has been a privilege. Now it is time
to pass this pen on to another able soul.
See you at Sea. ~ Captain Forrest Newburg
