| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | 39 Racquet Club Newly elected 2022 Racquet Club president Bob James jump started his term with his announcement of new initiatives and an expanded leadership team. Carol Ann Ferrol and Lorraine Novellino have joined returning board members David Johnson, Ann Rike, Sid Saltzman, and Dannica Wood. Bob's emphasis is on increased opportunities for fun on the courts. Sports committees, originally conceived by Herb Livsey, continue. The pickleball committee, representing our largest contingent, includes Roxanne Dillon, Suzanne Forman, Sandy Reinhardt, and Tom Vaccaro, and is led by Harvey Bernstein and Sue Bixler. Dannica Wood and Allan Singer lead paddle tennis. Patty Coffey, David Johnson and Kory Ward comprise the tennis committee — with Randy Ross subbing as tennis monitor. Badminton is overseen by Bob James and Cliff Singh. New in 2022 will be the Tournaments and Court Events committee with John Gildner and Felicity Swerdlow taking charge – adding a focus on smaller, more casual activities to encourage players of different skill levels – and players from different sports — to come together. An expanded pickleball instructional program will build on the highly popular Beginners Pickleball program Herb Livsey and Mike Hoggatt have run for years. Bob James has tapped Ron Boren, Guy James, Kevin Sorensen, and Patti Storm to assist with these efforts. Information about post-beginner classes, including intermediate and advanced skills and strategy classes, will be forthcoming during the first quarter. To complement the facelift our courts have had over the past months, the Board is rolling out a new Racquet Club logo. From the showcases at the courts to our print communications and website, to club gear (coming soon!), there will be a fresh, unified look to the Racquet Club. With our 2020 COVID hiatus behind us, we will again offer our six-session winter beginners pickleball lessons starting Sat., Jan. 15. Lessons are free and open to all residents; club membership is not required. The winter session is only for those who have not enrolled previously in an introductory class. Advance registration is required. Please email ohrchelp@gmail.com with your contact information. Use the Help Desk email to inquire about lessons for any of our racquet sports. Special request: No longer playing pickleball? Have an older paddle sitting unused in your garage? Consider donating your paddle to the club to be used for our classes. Contact Ann Rike at (626) 818-9301. Planning is underway for our winter party on Sat., March 5. Save the date! Resident Brett Anderson kicks off his pickleball strategy class with words of encouragement. Susan Hull-Patton (L) absorbs advice from Sue Bixler during a quick Pickleball session. New logo introduced by Racquet Club Board
