| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | 37 Swim, Surf & Wellness At our Nov. 18 bi-monthly meeting, members were treated to an informative talk by club member Kory Ward, Ph.D. entitled "Mindful Medicine: An Integrative Approach for Healthy Aging." Dr. Ward spoke about the mechanisms of aging and how we can slow these processes down by tuning into our natural circadian rhythms, improving sleep, lowering metabolic stress, and adding mindful movement such as swimming. Swimming reduces inflammation, which ultimately leads to less chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Dr. Ward also talked about the growing implementation of integrative medicine alongside Western medicine. We CAN achieve healthy aging! Our club offers FREE swim lessons! Instruction is tailored to the individual and can range from teaching folks who are water-phobic to those with advanced skills. Prefer a female instructor? We have those. Feel more comfortable with a male teacher? We have those, too. Instructors are club members who offer this service for free. Contact Ken Krueger at k2krueger@yahoo.com for more information. We continue to sponsor our blood pressure clinic once a month. Come to the Palm Court on the last Friday of every month from 2 to 3 pm. The clinic is confidential and open to all residents. Can't get to the Clubhouse? We'll come to you! Contact Lynne Conde at lynneconde@gmail.com for more information. Waveriders: Interested in surfing, body boarding, or paddle boarding? Club member Tim Patel sends email alerts about impromptu wave riding opportunities. For more information, contact Tim at timpentel@yahoo.com. Interested in joining our club? Come to Do Dues Day on Jan. 8 and meet some club officers and members. Dues are $10 per year. Or you can contact Sara Stewart anytime at s.stewart1@att.net for more information on joining. Our next meeting will be on Thurs., Jan. 20 from 6:30-8 pm. The club invites all residents to join us at this special open meeting. Watch for a flyer in your tube in early 2022 with details about the topic and speaker. Spotlight: If you are a regular at the pool, you have likely seen Dale Dombrow (at left) in action. Dale works for Pacific Coast Pool Service and has been caring for the OHCC pool for five years. Six days per week, you'll find Dale testing, cleaning and servicing the pool. He tests the chemicals every day, which include salt-generated chlorine, liquid chlorine and 3" tab chlorine. Our pool holds 120,000 gallons of water and has two heaters which are set at 86 degrees. Once the pool reaches that temperature, the heaters turn off and the solar heaters kick in. However, the solar heaters are not working right now. On Mondays, the pool is closed from 10:30 to 11:30 am while Dale does the deep cleaning. During the summer season, Mondays are his busiest days. In addition to the OHCC pool, he services nine other pools in the area! The next time you see Dale, say "hi" and thank him for his excellent attention to our pool.
