40 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | With the 2021 sailing season, the holidays and, hopefully, COVID lockdowns behind us, we can begin to plan for 2022. The club's final sail of the 2021 season was on Dec. 22, bringing total sailings for the year to 25 – a record number for a single season. For the first time, the club completed a group entry level training course for club members on Dec. 9. There were 30 club members signed up for the course given by Charlie Cappello, the club's Fleet Captain. Charlie's goal was to give members the basic training needed to feel comfortable about participating in sailing the boats. We expect 2022 to be an even better year. Our talented Captains and Mates are committed to continuing regular day sailings and working to add sunset sailings; July 4th evening fireworks sailings; informal "around the buoys beer can races;" and a regatta. The club will offer its members two important sponsored events during the year, including the Opening Day Gathering in June and a Pirate Party in October. Also, the club may participate with the club membership to offer outings such as a visit to the Maritime Museum on the San Diego Embarcadero, which is already being worked on. The club hopes to elicit the involvement of its members working with the club's social director to propose and organize other club activities. We hope all our OHCC residents who want the wondrous experience of sailing sign up. The club's website has been redesigned to facilitate easier sign-up for sailings and sign-up for club membership. It also includes many photographs of the club sailings and outings. You may sign up at the OHCC Do Dues Day on Jan. 8 or simply complete the Membership Form on the OHSC website and drop it along with your annual dues check for $15 at the Clubhouse front desk. The cost to go sailing for a day is $45 per member. This is a great value when you consider that you will enjoy a day on the water, experience some of the best San Diego Harbor has to offer, meet new friends and go home with an incredible memory.
