| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2022 | 7 Happy New Year's everyone! I want to give you a brief introduction in case you do not know me. In 2021, I was the Club's Vice-President and now in 2022, I am the President. I also serve as the Operations Section Chief on the Emergency Response Team. Additionally, I serve on the Hydra Village Board, and I am active in the RV and Racquet Clubs. Let me begin my first article with a reminder of the SERT Clubs Mission Statement which is all about SAFETY and we are living up to that commitment. I want to share with you the CLUB's New Year's Resolutions: • Grow our membership to over 400 members; we are currently at 228 • Fill all open Safety Coordinator positions in the Neighbor- Helping-Neighbor program • Emphasize "Your Safety… Your Responsibility" in everything we present So why did the Club's Board pick these items to concentrate on in 2022? Grow membership: We are a SERVICE CLUB that has fun while we give back to our community. Your membership and donations are the only money we generate each year. These funds go back into OHCC to help prepare and respond to a natural disaster like an earthquake or a major incident like a community wide power outage. 400 members at $10 each is only $4,000. That is why during Do Dues Day we are offering a new Lifetime Membership for $200 per person. The additional funds generated will be applied to improving our overall services to OHCC. Your 2022 membership comes with benefits. This year we are offering to all new and returning members a FREE Home Safety Educational Survey. SERT Emergency Response Team (ERT) and/ or Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor Safety Coordinators will come to your home and show you where your water, electrical and natural gas valves are located, and much more. Safety Coordinators: We have rebranded the former Street Captain/Co-Captain positions to Safety Coordinators. The change is in response to your questions about what the former positions do. Simply stated the street Safety Coordinator role is to promote "safety" within their assigned neighborhood and help neighbors be prepared for an emergency. During 2022 SERT ERT and Safety Coordinators members with be available to meet with you for small street gathers to help everyone understand how to stay safe. Your Safety, Your Responsibility: We will communicate this underlying theme throughout 2022. As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. We want all OHCC residents to know and understand how to "actively" prepare themselves so they can be safe. We will educate you… you must take the initiative to be prepared. Learn more about SERT at Do Dues Day… Become a member or renew your membership — and most importantly, STAY SAFE! By President Tom Porter, SERT President
