By Elizabeth Westbrook It would be safe to assume that we have embraced technology in the past two years more than ever. After conversing with Perry Goldstein, it reminded me of how it takes decades of work by people like him who are passionate in designing and providing consumer technology to make our lives easier. If you have participated in Zoom, webcasting, Skype, or teleconferencing, then there was a good chance you were a benefactor of one of Perry's award-winning microphones. If you are streaming your favorite shows or movies, his work at Marshall Electronics helped adapt the technology for those practical uses. Before Marshall, Perry worked with Panasonic Electronics where he developed and executed cutting-edge marketing programs, live events, and introduction of new products for the consumer and professional audio/video industry. Through his work, he met and worked with world-famous individuals — U.S. presidents, actors, and athletes. He worked with the electronics utilized in many films including ALL of the electronics in the movie 40 Year Old Virgin. His first-hand knowledge of the latest electronics made him the go-to guy to many customers including his favorite customer, Gregory Peck. Perry possesses a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification by the Pro Audio/Video industry trade association (AVIXA), which certifies that he has the knowledge necessary to work with commercial Pro A/V systems. Perry's talents would continue at Marshall Electronics. You and I may have been reading one of his many specifications on "gadgets" like security systems before purchasing. Who hasn't shopped Amazon? Much of the product content that appeared on MXL mics on Amazon was penned by Perry. Back in the early days of online shopping, he also wrote much of the content for Panasonic on websites like Best Buy and other consumer electronics sites. Currently, Perry has the title of e-commerce Industry Expert. He works for the California International Trade Center (CITC) which is operated by the California Community College system and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a federal agency counseling businesses on how to expand their e-commerce initiatives, locally and abroad, in at least eight different languages and in more than 20 countries, and is responsible for $20 million in sales. Perry also blogs, writes, and presents webinars about e-commerce for CITC. His articles and blogs are translated into five different languages. His BIG ideas continue to make him an excellent technology industry analyst. Where did he get his inspiration? Do you remember listening to music as a child and noticed the quality of sound that emitted from your stereo? Perry did. The love of music even motivated him to play the ukulele, guitar, and bass guitar. While at Panasonic, Perry met Tammy when they were assigned to work on the company Christmas party. Tammy handled the party arrangements and Perry handled the evening program and entertainment. It's no surprise they married. Later it will prove they made a perfect team working together, planning and executing hundreds of events. They handled large-scale fundraisers, Bar Mitzvahs, weddings, and other parties. Tammy was the executive secretary to the CEO and Perry was the marketing manager. Their professional lives did not keep them from having a family — twins, a boy and a girl. Their twins are now 22 years old. Zachary enlisted in the Air Force and is in the Logistics Division and is enrolled in college. His permanent base is Davis-Monthan in Tucson and is currently deployed to Qatar. Aria is studying to be a special needs teacher while working as an instructional assistant for the Huntington Beach Unified School District. The whole family is very involved in the Jewish communities of Riverside and Orange counties. They volunteer for Jewish events and organizations. Perry and his band "Orange Jews" and the entire family volunteers for Friendship Circle, a non-profit organization run by the Chabad, a Jewish organization, which serves the Special Needs community. Perry and Tammy joined our community in 2019 and have found numerous clubs and activities to keep them busier. Perry's contributions to the delight of our residents should keep us guessing – what is his next BIG idea? 12 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2022 The Idea Guy Big The Goldsteins: Perry, Zachary, Aria, and Tammy RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT
