42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2022 Our Book Club selection for Jan. 11 is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Here is a brief description from Amazon.com: "Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig's enchanting blockbuster novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through The Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place." Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am in the RCN room #3, and someone volunteers to lead the discussion about the book we have chosen for the month. She decided D-day, the second A-bomb city and the Battle of the Bulge. So, now, without a war on- going, she has more time to influence lesser military plans. As such, she has decided that here at Four Seasons we will wait for our Veterans Park dedication until we can do it properly-with a flag pole and an American flag flying overhead. The decision to cancel was more than a few raindrops. The potential impact on band instruments, mobility-challenged attendees with a muddy ground and disappointment of not having our flag pole installed added to the equation. So, we are kicking the can until General Washington's birthday (Feb. 22, 2022) to give us time to do it right. After all, he knew how to get Mother Nature on his side. I have been assured by the over- worked Lodge staff that the 232 freshly painted rocks will not spoil before then. ~ Len Tavernetti, ltavernetti@hotmail.com The Community Garden Club presents its first free event on Jan. 15 at 10 am in the RCN. Rebecca Levers from the California Native Plant Society will present a talk on plants that will thrive in our climate and home landscapes. Rebecca is a Master Gardener and certified UC California Naturalist. She volunteers at the UCR Botanic Garden and is an ambassador for the California Native Plant Society. As we prepare to refresh our landscaping in the spring, this talk will give you fresh ideas. More details will appear in the Daily Report and Activities Blast in January.
