This is based on the life and times of Aretha Franklin, the woman who would come to be known all over the world as the undisputed Queen of Soul. This story follows her beginnings back to when she first came onto the music scene as a singer in the choir at her father's church when she was a young girl growing up in Detroit. Following many difficulties in her adult life, due to bad marriages and other unwise choices, she still managed to keep contributing her natural talent to the music world, becoming one of the art's most recognizable voices, and producing songs that would be known and enjoyed by many generations. NINE DAYS Sun., Jan. 9, 6:30 pm. (2021) Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, Bill Skarsgard, Tony Hale. Will is an interviewer of souls. His job is to determine which soul, from a selection of candidates that just show up at his home near a vast desert, is most deserving to have the opportunity to live a life after someone already alive on Earth dies. Anyone not selected by Will returns to the desert and disappears from existence. After the death of one of his most successful candidates and the appearance of a soul that does not seem to care about the opportunity, Will suddenly finds himself facing self-doubt and questions about the purpose of his own life. MY SALINGER YEAR Wed., Jan. 26, 6:30 pm. (2021) Margaret Qualley, Sigourney Weaver, Douglas Booth, Seana Kerslake. Set in the 1990s, a young woman quits college and moves from California to New York City. An aspiring writer, she hustles her way into a job with an old-school literary agency that represents the American classic writer J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye. Her job is strictly secretarial and involves answering the fan mail of Salinger with a boilerplate form letter. The young woman gets into big legal and ethical trouble when she decides to start skipping the form letter to compose her own answers to Salinger's fans without the author's prior approval. OLD HENRY Sun., Jan. 30, 6:30 pm. (2021) Tim Blake Nelson, Scott Haze, Trace Adkins, Stephen Dorff. Old Henry is a western film focused on a widowed farmer named Henry and the dangerous situation he finds himself in. When an injured man named Curry shows up on his farm carrying a bag of cash, he and his son, Wyatt, decide to take him in despite their misgivings. It isn't long before three men arrive in Curry's wake, and it becomes necessary for Henry to decide who the enemy is. As he sets out to defend his farm and his child, his skill with a gun offers up more questions than answers for everyone involved.
