On Nov. 5 and 6, 30 Colony residents volunteered their time and effort to clean up the Golf Course finger #3, which is on the corner of Avenida Florita and Colony Drive. It was a huge project of pulling weeds, raking, trimming, sweeping, picking up and bagging debris, but it paid off and the corner looks great. This effort was the idea of Michael Frey, who has driven by this corner for so many years and just couldn't take it anymore. Therefore, emails were sent, volunteers were recruited and organized, and we got it done! I found it was a rewarding way to give back to our community, make new friends and get some exercise. The Golf Course management treated us to a pizza lunch, and we discussed moving forward with other cleanup days. To do so, each volunteer will need to sign a liability hold harmless form before they will be allowed to work on the Golf Course property. We have decided to work one day a month during the winter and spring seasons. The cleanup will always be on the third Saturday, starting on Jan. 15 at 7 am. Should we get rain that day, the cleanup will be moved to the following Saturday. We will start on finger #1, which is on the left as you enter the Jackson gate. Before each clean up there will be a meeting the prior week. To continue our efforts, we need your help. Volunteers can work as much or as little as they have time and are able. If you can't participate but want to help, large, black trash bag donations are welcomed. If you are interested in learning more, contact Jane Payne at janepayne3@verizon.net or (909) 455- 2253. Sending a big THANK YOU to our volunteers, which includes Mike Adam, Iris Balmelli, Kathy Bray, Gloria and Bruce Brosky, Bea Brown, Jamie Calvert, Rebecca and Laurent Carrer, Janet and Bob Evancik, Oscar Fernandez, Larry Fimon, Michael Frey, Jennifer Gerlach, Jodi Harris, Dianna Knopp, Jim McElhattan, Jane and John Payne, Herb Reynolds, Toni and Jim Shaw, Stephanie Shimono, Brenda Sindorf, Lynn Smith, Tim Sublett, Phyllis and Bill Way and Linda Weinke. Thank you also to Kathy Burgreen for bringing donuts, Mrs. Copeland for baking us scones, the volunteers who donated trash bags, and The Colony Petal Pusher Garden Club for donating water. Everyone's contribution was greatly appreciated. VOLUNTEER CLEANUP DAYS
