Red Rock
Canyon

Who would have guessed we
would still be here in 2022 – it is like
something out of science fiction!
When I think about it, I was born
before the middle of the 1900s and
here I am, still kicking almost a
quarter of the way through the 2000s.
I'm amazed and thankful!
But that is not what my article is
about. I was thinking of how many
people might go to Las Vegas to
celebrate the New Year. Even if you
are not a gambler – or even if you
are – there are a lot of things to do
and see in the Las Vegas area. Just
17 miles from the Strip there is the
amazing Red Rock Canyon. I had
one day and night in Las Vegas, and I
chose the Canyon over the Strip.
Red Rock Canyon National
Conservation Area is managed by
the Bureau of Land Management,
and it has gotten so busy it has a
reservation system to monitor the
number of people allowed in the
park at one time. From Oct. 1 to
May 31, reservations can be made
at https://www.recreation.gov/
timed-entry/10075177. The cost is
$15 a car, or it is free if you have the
Senior's National Park pass.
