20 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2022 | A R T Group The Creative Spotlight Esther Feigenbaum Royce Jerman will continue to offer Painting Pals Tuesdays 10 am - 1 pm and Beading Buddies, on Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm in The Lodge. No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome. Her contact information is royce742@gmail.com. I have always liked to draw, especially trees. In my adventure to master my art, I have discovered that I am searching for my voice: the what and the how I want to paint. Media I have explored include pencil, ink, charcoal, pastels, water color, and oils. Each has its unique way to express the image or idea that captures my artist's eye and heart. In my journey, I realized I am drawn to portraits — portraits of tree trunks, water pipes, rocky pathways, dry creek beds, lakes and clouds, as well as portraits of people and pets, among others. By "portrait" I mean more than the physical attribute of nose, eye, mouth, branch, leaf or form, rock, paper, scissor, animal, or mineral. I want to capture an essence, a time or a place, some visceral characteristic of the subject. This can be as simple as that special way a person smiles, the tilt of a head, the interaction of two objects, the contrast of color and texture, the values that set the mood and time. When choosing a subject to paint, I consciously explore what is drawing me to this scene, object, or person. What is it that I wish to share? Art provides me with the ability to discover and apply my ideas and feelings, to be one with the medium. Art lets me reveal who I am. I'm forever surprised at what appears. I invite you to view my new works at the Hemet Valley Art Association, located on historical Harvard Street, 144 N. Harvard St., Hemet. There will be two classes this month on Mon., Jan. 17 and Wed., Jan. 19 at 6 pm. Please come join me for our "Paint and Sip" class! I envision this being a relaxing, fun night where you will complete an acrylic painting, and I will guide you through the process. The class fee is $35 which will include all supplies - you just bring your wine (or beverage of choice) and an open mind. Email Alison_Wieman@yahoo.com or call (951) 313-6239 for more information.
