56 56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2022 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2022 | Year 2021 for the Sun Lakes Tennis Club concluded on an upswing that was highlighted by our Holiday Dinner and Quarterly Meeting on Dec. 11. President, Robert Walter, finished his two years of yeoman service. He thanked the members of the Executive Committee including Jim Ball, Phil Hazelton, Steve Schwartz, and David Nethercott for their work in assisting him. The primary business covered was the election of officers for year 2022 followed by a wonderful meal and superb entertainment provided by Tin Man's Heart. Officer names and their assigned roles will be published in February. One of the first tasks of the newly elected Executive Committee in the New Year will be to publish an updated directory that is inclusive of the new members we have gained over the past two years. Further, the Executive Committee will outline a schedule of events for 2022. One suggestion recently offered for the new year was to offer a series of sessions for players new to tennis, beginners who wish to gain basic skills. Watch this space for further information in the New Year. One of our members, Jim Close, celebrated his 90th birthday this past year. We congratulate him and wish him well as he continues to participate in many of our Club activities. Jim now qualifies for an honorary membership. The rest of us are invited to update our membership for 2022 by paying the modest $10 fee and making sure that our information (Email and telephone) is updated. And, as always, we welcome brand new members. Sign-up slips and envelopes are located in the South Clubhouse next to the entrance adjacent to the tennis courts. Please use the secure drop box for all submissions. Now a tennis tip, this one about wintertime play. Phil Hazelton advises, "As we get older our minds and our bodies tend to disagree. Remembering how we use to play and what our bodies will let us play today are different. Playing in colder temps require more prep than playing in summer temps. Stretching is one big key. Getting our bodies warmed up before we play will help prevent injuries that can put us out of the game. So, warm up from the service court area first (mini tennis). Then, short court warm up helps stretch and warm up without injuries. Next, try practicing using only 1/2 the full court area. This will limit trying to compete full court and still will give you good cardio." Finally, remember, always, keep your eye on he ball and the fun in your game. Tennis
