40 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2022 | Yiddish Culture Club Happy New Year From Your Board Members At YCC! It's the New Year and time to think about what activities you are interested in pursuing with our wonderful club. There is a general membership meeting on Fri., Jan. 14 at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room. Please come with your best ideas and suggestions. It is my pleasure to present the 2022 YCC Board of Directors: President, Ellie Fixman. Ellie was born, bred, educated, married, and worked in the most diverse city in the country, New York City. She still misses NY bagels, pizza and Chinese food! Ellie taught in elementary school for almost five years until she and her husband Rick moved to the New Jersey 'burbs' to raise their three children. Being a stay-at-home parent provided Ellie the opportunity to develop other interests such as knitting, sewing, needlepoint, cake decorating, Chinese cooking, 3-D art, and glass mosaics, to name just a few. Ellie eventually returned to New York City to teach art. Nineteen years later, Ellie moved clear across the country to Sun Lakes Country Club. Vice President of Programs, Diane Stone. Diane's been active with the YCC since its inception in 2003. Her first job was as the musical producer and pianist for the YCC's production of Schmaltz, a parody of Broadway's Grease, and she's produced most of the YCC's programs since 2005. Diane, an ex-New Yorker, moved to Southern California in 1966. Her management background is in the corporate tax world and she also fondly remembers her volunteer time leading local and regional Angeles Girl Scout Council activities. Vice President of Membership, Diane Berley. Diane Berley is a native of Southern California. She grew up in Downey, southeast of Los Angeles, earned her BA degree from UC Irvine, and her law degree from Southwestern University. She lived in the San Fernando Valley for 42 years, where she raised her two daughters, now in their 30s, was active in Girl Scouts, PTA, and other local activities, and began traveling both in the U.S. and to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. In her copious spare time, Diane practiced law, initially in real estate and real property litigation, and for the past 35 years, as a post-conviction appellate criminal lawyer. She is working towards the goal of semi-retirement. Within a few weeks of getting settled in, Diane found an ever-expanding group of wonderful new friends and neighbors, and joined YCC. Vice President of Communications, Marsha Rudak. Marsha recently moved to Sun Lakes from the Wisconsin/Illinois area where she had worked in supply chain and distribution for the lion's share of her career. Marsha credits finding Sun Lakes Country Club to an unusual twist of fate and coincidence. Recently retired, she is putting her BA in Communications to work writing for the YCC. Treasurer, Maryanne Kirschbaum. Maryanne received her BBA in accounting while raising her three young children. As soon as any organization discovered her accounting background, she was always nominated to be treasurer. Maryanne worked for the Florida Department of Revenue as a tax auditor before retirement. Soon afterwards, she began to work in her son-in-law's office as in-house accountant. True to form, upon moving to Sun Lakes and joining YCC, she was again asked to take over the position of treasurer. She enjoys keeping the finances in order and has made many friends through the YCC. Please notify Marilyn Forhane, YCC's Sunshine Board Member, at (951) 845-9455 (mfor18@gmail.com) if you know anyone who should receive a get well or sympathy card. Notify Diane Stone, VP Programs, at (951) 769-0130 (swmbo3@ gmail.com) if you have program ideas or want to borrow one of the DVDs from the YCC library. Diane Berley, Membership VP, at (818) 943-6457 (berley52@aol. com) wants to hear about any changes in your contact information and will answer any questions about membership. The Yiddish Culture Club welcomes all residents of any denomination
