| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2022 | 53 POP Tennis Welcome to February, aka "The Month of Love." In POP Tennis, "love" literally means "nothing" - but we prefer to think of it as: In POP Tennis, it all starts with "love." The scoring for POP is very similar to mainstream tennis in that love is the score when a side has no points. But just like in regular "love," things can change rapidly! Sun Lakes POP has welcomed quite a few new members lately who are quickly finding out how much fun POP can be. We are excited to announce that we are adding an additional day of play. POPers can now enjoy playing on Saturdays at 8 am. The Saturday play is in addition to Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 8 am which are designated POP times. Part of the beauty of POP is that players can rotate in or out as their schedules allow. We are planning some skills clinics with Pat and Michelle Carter (POPers extraordinaire) teaching us some tricks and a few good habits to help us evolve into better POPers. We are hoping to also hold a couple's tournaments this year. In addition, we likely will have two parties this year which traditionally have included great games, fantastic food and fabulous frivolity. All current POP players need to get the $10 membership fee to Jeanne McGuire ASAP. It's a bargain! A mere $10 for unlimited good times, laughs, exercise, and improved physical and mental health. Anyone who is considering joining POP, please come on down on any dry Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday morning and join in the play. We always have loaner paddles and balls for prospective players. You too might discover a whole other meaning of love. And you will learn why many of us are POP lovers! For those who have not attended a January session of play I would like to inform you of two changes in leadership. Gary Lile has stepped up to lead the group replacing Roland Lau. We all need to THANK Roland for his time leading our group. Valerie Villarreal has stepped up to be our new liaison to the Recreation Department, working with them to secure as much play time each month as possible. She will be writing the future intro paragraphs for Lifestyles. We need to thank them both for volunteering. STAY SAFE - STAY HEALTHY… Dennis - over and out Normally we play Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 4 to 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally). Because the Ballroom is such a popular venue for so many varied events, our time slot sometimes gets canceled. Therefore, if you are not a regular attendee, please refer to the Sun Lakes website at sunlakescc.com and click on "Recreation." Then click on "Classes," and finally click on "Table Tennis Group" for the current month's up-to-date schedule. You can also check the Main Clubhouse events board across from the reception desk or call (951) 845-2191 for that day's calendar. We have all skill levels currently participating, and we welcome all newcomers. We have several newer quality tables, and all the equipment is provided free by the Sun Lakes Recreation Department. It's a fun way to exercise! Please come give us a try. There are no fees. Laced tennis shoes required - no exceptions! For info, contact Gary Lile at (805) 722-7427. Table Tennis/Ping Pong
