56 56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2022 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2022 | On Dec. 11, the Sun Lakes Tennis Club completed formal business for the year by electing new members to the Executive Committee. Our new Executive Committee is now poised to arrange another full range of tennis enjoyment in 2022. Executive Committee members are pictured below (L-R): David Nethercott (Secretary), Kim Jensen (First VP), Wendy Seirup (Second VP), Lillie Lawaetz (Treasurer), and David Huetten (President). Each of us in the Executive Committee welcomes new ideas and creative input from our Tennis Club membership. We also invite new membership to our Club at any time during the year. The cost for membership is nominal, $10 per person, and may include those who simply wish to attend our social gatherings. Membership forms and envelopes are available in the South Clubhouse. Then use the secure, slotted box to submit your completed form with money. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to use our first-class courts, six in all located adjacent to the South Clubhouse. There are some limits, however, related to how and when the courts are used. The rules for court use are clearly posted and ought to be honored. Unfortunately, the courts have been misused, even abused. For example, the courts are not to be used as play areas for pets or for riding on skateboards. Tennis Club scheduled activities always take precedence. We thank Sun Lakers for your kind consideration. Now, another valuable tennis tip by Phil Hazelton: Hitting a high bouncing lob can be tricky. Any time the ball bounces high above your shoulders forget about returning it with power. Return back deep then reposition yourself on your side of the court. Returning the high lob deep and slow will give you and your partner a chance to get to the net, putting the pressure on the opposing team. Fact! Doubles teams that get to the net as a team win approximately 70 percent of the points. Keep your eye the ball and the fun in your game. ~ David Nethercott, 315-415-2408 Tennis
