Friends we will miss D. Joyce Bowman passed away on November 10, 2021, after a long battle with heart disease. She was born on March 24, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Doris and Emery Lane. After high school in Atkins, Iowa, she moved to Southern California and attended Chaffey Jr. College. She subsequently started work with the federal government as a clerk typist for the USAF/Civilian and retired as an auditor on several top secret projects. She met Vernon Bowman at Parents Without Partners, and they married in 1985. She expanded her family consisting of two sons, Steven and Robert Justice, with the addition of Vern's children, Salette Fidadelfia, Ann Minshall, as well as Robert and Roger Bowman, plus a number of grand and great-grandchildren. She and Vern moved to Sun Lakes in 1999 after Vern's retirement, and they both agreed it was the best move ever. Joyce joined the Sun Lakes Chorale as she loved to sing and had previously belonged to the Golden Sands Sweet Adelines in Long Beach. She joined the choral talent show which became "The Follies." She and Vern joined the Big Band Bobby-Soxers which later became the "Dinner Dance." She also belonged to the International Culture Club. Along the way, she helped start several vocal groups, including The Jeweltones, the Gems, the Blenders, Notables, Silver Belles and the Keynotes. For her, the years at Sun Lakes were the best ever! Roger Ford was born on August 2, 1938, in Southampton, England and passed away suddenly on November 22, 2021 at the age of 83. Roger grew up in England and began working on Rolls Royce and Bentleys at the age of 15. He spent 60 years performing restorations and repairs. He was known worldwide for his expertise, skill, and integrity. Roger acted as Chief Tech Advisor to the West Coast Rolls Royce Owner's Club for many years. Even in his 80s, owners and specialty shops called for his expert advice. Although Roger spent many years in England and Canada, he and his wife Nancy (married 33 years), have resided in Sun Lakes for more than 18 years. They have enjoyed the camaraderie and laughter of countless friends. We will all miss his delightful British banter and loving disposition. Roger is pre-deceased by his brother Jimmy and daughter Barbara. He is survived by his wife Nancy, sister Pam, two children (Brian and Donald), six grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. You are loved and forever in our thoughts and hearts. Submit your Friends We Will Miss to sunlakesnews@yahoo.com 64 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2022 |
