58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2022 Whether you have sprinted up Mount Everest, taken a trip on one of Jeff Bezos' rocket ships, or actually spotted Sasquatch on a trail behind The Lodge, nothing would have prepared you for the great talent that was displayed at the 2021 Four Seasons Table Tennis Club's Holiday Party back on Dec. 16. Initially we thought that a new COVID variant, coupled with another forthcoming mask mandate, would cast a pall over the event, but nothing could be further from the truth! With Dave and Janine Rohrbacker honorably volunteering to emcee the party, the crowd came alive soon after devouring their plates of tri-tip, chicken cordon bleu, and cheesecake. When karaoke kicked in, Rony Tordesillas performed a great rendition of More Than a Feeling, and newcomer Jim Wong displayed great vocal chops along with a smooth dance routine that had us believing that Elvis and Fred Astaire were brothers from the same mother. The talent kept coming as Alan and Josephine Chan sang a duet from 10 feet apart right out of a scene from Romeo and Juliet, and when Richard Carrasco began serenading his wife from across the room, we were suddenly transformed to the front row at a Vegas lounge show. Janine's follow-up class in line dancing wasn't any less impressive. It was quite evident that this was hardly the first time that many in the crowd had line danced, but there were many courageous first-timers as well. It was only when Dave cranked up the volume and on Run Run Rudolph that we realized that The Courts Multipurpose Room curfew of 8 pm was drawing closer. Like good little ping-pongers, we cleared the room and left right on time, but you sensed that this crazy crowd could have easily gone until midnight. By the time you read this, 2021 will be in our rear view mirror, and I trust that many of us have taken a much-needed sigh of relief. We are unsure what the structure of the Four Seasons Table Tennis Club will look like in 2022, but rest assured that The Courts Multipurpose Room will be buzzing with the sounds of ping pong on a daily basis, and that folks will be enjoying and playing the game that probably started in their garages or basements back in the 60s and 70s. We welcome players of all skill levels and experience and feel free to reach out to any of us if you are new to the game, or just want to bring back some of that old magic.
